A Fluid-Solid Coupled Micromechanical Simulation for the Analysis of Piping Erosion During the Seabed Installation of a Suction Bucket Foundation

IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environment
Suction buckets are a promising concept for the foundations of offshore wind turbines. During the installation process of a suction bucket, localized fluidization of the granular soil, so-called piping erosion, may lead to installation failure.

Theoretical and intelligent studies of critical hydraulic gradient for piping erosion

The Physics of Fluids
Piping erosion is one of the most common reasons for the failure of hydraulic engineering structures, and determining the critical state of piping erosion is crucial.

3D/1D seamlessly coupled simulation of cloud cavitation at a circular leading edge hydrofoil and the attached piping

IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environment
A compressible holistic flow simulation method is presented and applied on cloud cavitation at a hydrofoil with a circular leading edge. The hydrofoil flow itself is calculated with a compressible shock-resolving 3D Euler Finite Volume method and a mass ...

Research on Fluid-Structure-Acoustic Coupling Based Steam Pipeline Vibration Characteristics Analysis and Its Integrated Control

International Journal of Acoustics and Vibration
The vibration of steam pipelines in the second loop cabin of nuclear power vessels will exacerbate their underwater radiation noise, and the high temperature and corrosive working environment in the second loop cabin restrict the use of many pipeline ...

COUPLED FLOW IN POROUS-MATERIAL LINED PIPES

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 1991
The slow motion of a fluid is studied in a duct of circular constant cross-section, whose internal wall is covered by a porous material permeable to the fluid, with an eye to the inlet phenomenon produced by arbitrary initial conditions at a given station. The coupled problem concerning the simultaneous Stokes flow in the central free region and Darcy

Aeroacoustical coupling and synchronization of organ pipes

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2016
A synchronization experiment on two mutual interacting organ pipes is compared with a theoretical model which takes into account the coupling mechanisms by the underlying first principles of fluid mechanics and aeroacoustics. The focus is on the Arnold-tongue, a mathematical object in the parameter space of detuning and coupling strength which ...

SYNCHRONIZATION OF HIGHER HARMONICS IN COUPLED ORGAN PIPES

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2007
We report results on the synchronization of two organ pipes positioned side by side. Special attention is put on the synchronization of the higher harmonics. As possible explanation, classical theory provides the amplitude death as explanation for the reduction to almost silence of two coupled organ pipes.

Coupling between two cylindrical light pipes: a design

Applied Optics, 1976
An expression for the transmission characteristics of a conical coupling is derived. This expression is shown to be useful for choosing an optimum coupling length.
