Plastic deformation and stability of pipes exposed to external couples

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1979
Abstract Buckling couples are determined from theoretical couple-displacement curves obtained by a plastic solution in terms of three-dimensional stress and strain satisfying end conditions. The plastic deformation is analyzed by describing the material behavior as rigid, hardening-plastic and by using the virtual work method for large nonlinear ...

Experiments on redirection of organ pipe sound by coupling

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2004
It is well known among organ builders that the sound of an organ pipe may be influenced by the addition of closely tuned pipes in the vicinity of the pipe. Rather than being a result of absorption of sound it is hypothesized that the effect is due to the sound being redirected due to coupling between pipes, similar to the coupling between elements in a

Couplings for glass pipes with protective thermoplastic shells

Glass and Ceramics, 1982
The use of one kilometer of glass pipes in technological supply lines makes it possible to reduce by 16 tons the consumption of steel pipes, saving up to i!,000 rubles and obtaining several technical advantages as a result of the excellent corrosion resistance, health safety, and other favorable properties of glass. However, the further increase in the

Stress Cracks in Brass Pipe Couplings

2019
Abstract Brass pipe couplings submitted for examination were deep-drawn from disks then annealed and subsequently cold threaded. Chemical analysis confirmed that the specified alloy Ms 63 was used for fabrication. Some of the pipe already showed fine cracks prior to their installation. In most cases however the cracks were detected after

Coupling between two cylindrical light pipes: a design

Applied Optics, 1976
An expression for the transmission characteristics of a conical coupling is derived. This expression is shown to be useful for choosing an optimum coupling length.

Probabilistic Seismic Response of Coupled Tank-Piping Systems

Volume 8: Seismic Engineering, 2016
Dynamic analysis is an integral part of seismic risk assessment of industrial plants. Such analysis often neglects proper coupling between structures of coupled systems, which introduces uncertainty into the system and may lead to erroneous results, e.g., incorrect fragility curves, in comparison with the actual behavior of the analyzed structure ...

The Influence of Connection Geometry on the Fatigue Life of National Pipe Thread Threaded Pipe Couplings

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2012
In this paper, four-point bending experiments are performed to determine the fatigue life of several threaded pipe couplings. It is shown that fatigue life of these couplings can be improved by designing them with more uniform load distribution in the threads, achieved through reducing the global and local stiffness of the coupling.

Vibrations of three-dimensional pipe systems with acoustic coupling

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1981
A general algorithm is developed to calculate the beam-type dynamic response of three dimensional multiplane finite length pipe systems, consisting of elbow and straight ducts with continuous interfaces. Emphasis is on secondary acoustic wave effects giving rise to coupling mechanisms; and the simulation accounts for one-dimensional elastoacoustic ...
