Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Covalent adaptable polymer networks with CO2-facilitated recyclability
Cross-linked polymers with covalent adaptable networks (CANs) can be reprocessed under external stimuli owing to the exchangeability of dynamic covalent bonds.

Ionomycin suppresses cancer cell growth by disrupting mitochondrial transcription
In this study, we identify a new function for the selective Ca2+ ionophore, ionomycin, as an inhibitor of mitochondrial transcription. Both total and nascent RNA analyses revealed that ionomycin treatment reduces the transcription of mitochondrial genes.

Neighboring Group Participation in Ionic Covalent Adaptable Networks
Covalent adaptable networks (CANs) typically require external catalysts for efficient cross-linker exchange, which can limit network reprocessability due to catalyst leaching and degradation. In this study, catalysts were avoided by using a bicyclo[3.3.1]

The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...
