Dynamics of biotic resistance to plant invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biotic resistance, the reduction in invasion success caused by native communities, plays an important role in the long‐term dynamics of biological invasions. A large body of empirical research on biotic resistance has accumulated since the last comprehensive review on the subject 20 years ago, enabling us to achieve a refined understanding of ...

Reducing Food Waste Through Sharing Platforms: Unveiling the Rebound Effect

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food‐sharing platforms are nowadays recognised as a powerful tool to increase food saving. However, little is known about the key determinants fostering its usage. We propose testing the psychosocial determinants of food‐sharing app usage and its impact on post consumption behaviour by combining the technology acceptance model (TAM) with the ...

On the Geometry of Covariance Matrices

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2013
We introduce and compare certain distance measures between covariance matrices. These originate in information theory, quantum mechanics and optimal transport. More specifically, we show that the Bures/Hellinger distance between covariance matrices coincides with the Wasserstein-2 distance between the corresponding Gaussian distributions.

Dimension from covariance matrices

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2017
We describe a method to estimate embedding dimension from a time series. This method includes an estimate of the probability that the dimension estimate is valid. Such validity estimates are not common in algorithms for calculating the properties of dynamical systems.
