Exotic smooth structures on 4-manifolds with zero signature

open access: yes, 2010
For every integer $k\geq 2$, we construct infinite families of mutually nondiffeomorphic irreducible smooth structures on the topological $4$-manifolds $(2k-1)(S^2\times S^2)$ and $(2k-1)(\CP#\CPb)$, the connected sums of $2k-1$ copies of $S^2\times S^2$

The Clinical Spectrum and Neurodevelopmental Pathogenesis of KPTN‐Related Disorder in a Mouse Model

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Pathogenic variants in Kaptin (KPTN) cause KPTN‐related disorder (KRD). KPTN modulates mTOR signaling activation within the KICSTOR complex in response to cellular amino acid levels. We define the clinical spectrum and investigate the developmental pathogenesis of KRD.

Topical use of antifibrinolytic agents reduces postoperative bleeding: a double-blind, prospective, randomized study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Objective: Postoperative bleeding is still one of the most common complications of cardiac surgery. Antifibrinolytic agents successfully reduce bleeding, but there are controversies concerning adverse effects after their systemic use.

Auditory Hyperresponsivity in Chronic Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Pain Reprocessing Therapy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Heightened sensitivity to noxious stimulation is a hallmark of chronic pain. Emerging evidence suggests heightened unpleasantness to non‐noxious (eg, auditory) aversive stimulation also characterizes chronic pain, but its magnitude, neural mechanisms, and treatment modifiability remain unknown.

Dynamic parity recovery in a strongly driven Cooper-pair box [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We study a superconducting charge qubit coupled to an intensive electromagnetic field and probe changes in the resonance frequency of the formed dressed states. At large driving strengths, exceeding the qubit energy-level splitting, this reveals the well

Next Generation Hosts for Protein Recognition, Assembly and More

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The original design of synthetic receptors for proteins was based on macrocycles with a hydrophobic core and a polar/charged periphery. This design, geared towards protein recognition, facilitates receptor self‐assembly. Macrocycle oligomerization, in turn, contributes to protein assembly as evidenced in many cocrystal structures.

A contemporary simple risk score for prediction of severe acute kidney injury after heart transplantation

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1166-1175, April 2025.
A contemporary simple risk score for prediction of severe AKI after HT. Abstract Background The aim of this study was to develop a simple risk score to estimate severe acute kidney injury (AKI) risk based on a large contemporary heart transplantation (HT) cohort.

Primatas do Parque Nacional do Jamanxim/PA: riqueza, distribuição e ameaças

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira, 2018

Stress Redistribution Mechanisms and Subsidence Control of Fluidized Gangue Backfilling in Underground Coal Mining: Integrated Experimental and Numerical Investigation

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Fluidized gangue backfilling controls mining subsidence through stress redistribution in composite backfill‐pillar systems, reducing surface settlement and stress concentrations. Multi‐scale experimental and numerical analysis provides quantitative design parameters for optimizing ground control in sustainable underground coal mining operations ...
