Changing climates and environments within the complex Middle to Late Pleistocene fill of an overdeepened valley at Niederweningen, Switzerland

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Glacially overdeepened valleys in the northern Alpine Foreland preserve Middle to Late Pleistocene sedimentary sequences that may serve as valuable archives for reconstructing past environmental changes in response to shifts in climate. This study presents a multidisciplinary analysis of two sediment cores from the overdeepened Wehntal Valley at ...

Mechanism of piezocone penetration tests under partial drainage conditions

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
In the natural state, the constraints of soils are between completely drained and undrained conditions. Due to the influences of the probe size, penetration velocity, soil properties and other factors, the partial drainage conditions will occur during ...

Assessments of Liquefaction Triggering and Manifestation at Three Case History Sites in Napier Based on 1931 Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, Earthquake

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 3, August 2026.
The 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake (∼MS 7.8) stands as one of New Zealand's most devastating, causing widespread liquefaction and damage across the city of Napier. However, Napier remains underrepresented in liquefaction hazard studies as compared to other regions in the country.

Study on Soil Consolidation Coefficient on CPTU Model Test

open access: yes, 2011
Through analyzing excess pore pressure dissipation datum measured by CPTU probe and pore pressure mini-transducers on CPTU model test, the consolidation coefficient of soil of CPTU model test has been computed. Based on axis-symmetric consolidation model

Understanding selective triggering of landslide movement in response to rainfall, Gisborne, New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 68, Issue 5, Page 1064-1080, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Northeastern New Zealand has a landscape susceptible to landslides, on account of (1) its proximity to an active plate boundary, (2) steep slopes, (3) young, soft, sedimentary rocks and soils, (4) landuse changes, and (5) rainfall from ex‐tropical cyclones. The interplay of these led to widespread rainfall‐induced landsliding in the first half

CPTU-kairaus ja sen tulkinta [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää kirjallisuuden avulla, mitä maaperän ominaisuuksia CPTU-kairauksella voidaan määrittää ja milloin sitä kannattaa käyttää.

Field Testing of a Smart Geomat Based on Fiber Optic Sensors and Sensor Fusion for Levee Monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 18, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Real‐time monitoring of the functionality of river embankments, especially during flood events, is an increasingly important topic in the new scenario outlined by climate change. To address this issue, the concept of the “smart levee” has recently emerged, based on the fusion of information from different types of sensors to obtain, remotely ...

Understanding the scattering data from cone penetration tests based on sedimentary facies

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Cone penetration testing (CPT) and its variant with pore pressure measurements (CPTu) are versatile tools that have been traditionally used for in situ geotechnical site investigations.

Evaluating geoparameters of Maine sensitive clay by CPTU

open access: yes, 2022
Using two sets of analytical solutions for CPTU in clays, a suite of theoretically-consistent geoparameters is shown to be in good agreement with independent laboratory and field test results obtained on sensitive Presumpscot clay in Portland, Maine, USA. Fall cone tests indicate a mean sensitivity of St ≈ 37.
