Enhancing disciplinary diversity and inclusion in conservation science and practice based on a case study of the Society for Conservation Biology

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 6, December 2024.
Abstract Effective conservation requires a variety of perspectives that center on different ways of knowing. Disciplinary diversity and inclusion (DDI) offers an important means of integrating different ways of knowing into pressing conservation challenges.

Biofunctionalization of dental abutments by a zinc/chitosan/gelatin coating to optimize fibroblast behavior and antibacterial properties

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, Volume 112, Issue 11, Page 1873-1892, November 2024.
Zn2+ released from Zn/CS/Gel composite coatings were released in a sustained and pH‐responsive manner, thereby improving the migration, adhesion and collagen deposition of hGFs. Abstract Tightly sealed peri‐implant gingival tissue provides a barrier against oral bacterial invasion, protecting the alveolar bone and maintaining long‐term implant survival.

NeuroBooster Array: A Genome‐Wide Genotyping Platform to Study Neurological Disorders Across Diverse Populations

open access: yesMovement Disorders, Volume 39, Issue 11, Page 2039-2048, November 2024.
Abstract Background Commercial genome‐wide genotyping arrays have historically neglected coverage of genetic variation across populations. Objective We aimed to create a multi‐ancestry genome‐wide array that would include a wide range of neuro‐specific genetic content to facilitate genetic research in neurological disorders across multiple ancestral ...

Public perspectives on hunting mountain lions and black bears in Colorado

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2024.
Through two public mail‐back surveys, this study assessed Colorado residents' opinions on hunting mountain lions and black bears. The results showed polarized approval, with significant disapproval for hunting for trophies, hide or fur, recreation, and using dogs or electronic calls.

Mental health clinical pathways for children and young people with long‐term health conditions: A systematic review

open access: yesJournal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, Volume 30, Issue 6, Page 894-908, September 2024.
Abstract Rationale Clinical pathways (CPWs) are structured care plans that set out essential steps in the care of patients with a specific clinical problem. Amidst calls for the prioritisation of integrated mental and physical health care for young people, multidisciplinary CPWs have been proposed as a step towards closer integration.

Dapagliflozin prevents ERK activation and SGLT2‐dependent endoglin upregulation in a mechanically provoked cardiac injury model

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 12, Issue 7, April 2024.
Abstract Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are rapidly gaining ground in the treatment of heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by an unknown mechanism. Upregulation of Na+/H+ exchanger 1 (NHE1), SGLT1, and Ca2+/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) in the diseased ...

Evaluating the performance of instream structures for a stream restoration project in Colorado

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 308-321, March 2024.
Abstract Metals pollution and channel disturbance associated with historical mining, land use, and water development degraded aquatic and riparian habitat along the upper Arkansas River near Leadville, Colorado. Stream restoration was conducted for an 8 km reach to improve aquatic habitat and increase trout populations.

Asia‐Pacific survey on green endoscopy

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 133-140, January 2024.
Abstract Background and Aim Greenhouse gas emissions are the fundamental cause of global warming, with CO2 being the most contributive. Carbon reduction has been widely advocated to mitigate the climate crisis. The endoscopy unit is the third highest waste‐generating department in a hospital.
