More Science Than Art: The First Botanical Garden in Portugal (c. 1650)

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gabriel Grisley, a German physician, came to Portugal and founded a garden near the Xabregas River in Lisbon, during the 1610s under the Spanish kings' rule. High Value‐Added Secondary Raw Material From Winemaking Waste Bentonite to Design Antioxidant Pectin‐Based Mucoadhesive Buccal Films

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
Hyaluronic acid and/or pectin (crosslinked by calcium lactate) allowed the development of Bentophen200 extract‐loaded buccal films. Given i) the antioxidant power of the polyphenols‐rich extract optimized via multiple maceration of waste bentonite and ii) the flexibility, mucoadhesivity, and suitability of the films for oromucosal application, they can

From pollen provision to pollinator: Species‐specific sterol assimilation by wild bees in urban landscapes

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 1906-1920, June 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Biodiversity‐driven spatial conservation planning to delineate temporally stable regions

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract The accelerating loss of biodiversity underscores the critical need for effective conservation strategies, particularly in the face of climate change and anthropogenic pressures. We devised a conservation planning framework that adopts a temporal stacking approach to species distribution models and landscape connectivity analyses. These models

Shaping future forests: how can ecophysiology support climate‐smart forest management?

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 5, Page 2778-2813, June 2026.
Summary Climate change, particularly the associated increase in extreme events and disturbances, threatens the numerous environmental, social, and economic benefits that forests provide, both locally and globally. Heat and drought pose significant risks to forest ecosystems; the anticipated future climate is expected to exacerbate this trend ...

El nuevo gobierno de Sancho de Leonardo Castellani a la luz del modelo cervantino

open access: yesAnales Cervantinos, 2017
