Uncertainty evaluation of crack-tip parameters from displacement field data
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2019Abstract In the study of fracture mechanics, various techniques are used to determine the parameters that characterize the crack-tip stress field. What these techniques obtain is the full-field displacement distribution and then, the parameters are extracted through the so-called over-deterministic method.

Biaxial stress effects on the elastic-plastic crack-tip displacement fields
Meccanica, 1990A plane stress, finite element analysis of the monotonic loading of a Mode I stationary crack under small scale yielding using a boundary layer approach is presented. A small-strain,J2plasticity theory is used in conjunction with a linear hardening material model.

Approximation of mode I crack-tip displacement fields by a gradient enhanced elasticity theory
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2014Gradient theories are capable of describing deformation of heterogeneous elastic materials better than classical elasticity theory since they are able to capture internal length effects. Here, crack-tip displacement fields at the tip of a mode I crack in gradient enhanced elastic materials are derived in closed form and contrasted with experiments ...

On the crack-tip displacement field in finite-sized plates
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1991Abstract The crack-tip displacement field of a central cracked plate of finite size is herein examined to determine the nature of the stress field singularity in cracked-body geometries of this kind. Two algorithms, based on a modified theory of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM), are constructed for this case for use with Moire displacement ...

Abstract Thermomechanical stress and displacement fields for a propagating crack in functionally graded materials (FGMs) are developed using displacement potentials and asymptotic analysis. The shear modulus, mass density, and coefficient of thermal expansion of the FGMs are assumed to vary exponentially along the gradation direction ...

The present paper shows a way to identify crack tip location (CTL) using edge detection algorithms. Arbitrary crack tip coordinates were fed to Linear Elastic Facture mechanics (LEFM) analytical models to simulate displacement fields. Then, first degree edge detection algorithms were applied to the obtained displacement fields to identify crack edges ...

Stress and Displacement Fields at a Transient Crack Tip Propagating in Functionally Graded Materials
Key Engineering Materials, 2007Stress and displacement fields for a transient crack tip propagating along gradient in functionally graded materials (FGMs) with an exponential variation of shear modulus and density under a constant Poisson's ratio are developed. The equations of transient motion in nonhomogeneous materials are developed using displacement potentials and the solution ...

Measurement of Crack Tip Displacement Field in Desiccating Paste
Desiccation cracking is a phenomenon in which cracks are caused by shrinkage of drying paste material. In the present study, digital image correlation, DIC, is applied to measure the displacement field at the crack tip in a drying paste. In order to obtain magnified images around the crack tip, the control method for crack nucleation position and crackTatsuya Arai, Kenichi Sakaue
