Automatic Road Crack Detection and Characterization
IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2013A fully integrated system for the automatic detection and characterization of cracks in road flexible pavement surfaces, which does not require manually labeled samples, is proposed to minimize the human subjectivity resulting from traditional visual surveys. The first task addressed, i.e., crack detection, is based on a learning from samples paradigm,

On the detection of cracks in photographic prints
SPIE Proceedings, 2008A method for the detection of cracks in old paper photographs is presented. Cracks in photographic prints usually result from a folding of the paper support of the photograph; they often extend across the entire image, along a preferred orientation. A first clue we exploit for crack detection is the fact that old prints have a characteristic sepia ...

Hyperspectral crack detection in paintings
2015 Colour and Visual Computing Symposium (CVCS), 2015Several approaches to the crack detection of paintings are available for grayscale and color images, and recently also for spectral images. However, the approaches that are used for the multivariate data are either using a marginal approach or requiring a data reduction which enable the use of grayscale operators.

A cue generator for crack detection
Image and Vision Computing, 1989Abstract This paper describes a computationally efficient method for identifying weakly visible cracks in images of man-made surfaces. The method relies on a multistage nonlinear filtering process designed to yield maximum response to symmetrical fine structure.

Crack detection has drawn much attention in the last two decades, because of dramatic bloom in monitoring images and the urgent need of corresponding crack detection. However, recent methods have not taken advantage of structure information effectively, resulting in low accuracy when dealing with crack-like noises.

The dynamic behaviour and crack detection of a beam with a crack
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1990Abstract In this paper, an element stiffness matrix of a beam with a crack is first derived from an integration of stress intensity factors, and then a finite element model of a cracked beam is established. This model is applied to a cantilever beam with an edge-crack, and the eigenfrequencies are determined for different crack lengths and locations.

Crack detection and vibration behavior of cracked beams
Computers & Structures, 2001Abstract A theoretical and experimental dynamic behavior of different multi-beams systems containing a transverse crack is presented. The additional flexibility that the crack generates in its vicinity is evaluated using the strain energy density function given by the linear fracture mechanic theory.
