Thermoelastic Investigation of Crack Paths

Traditionally fracture mechanics is mostly concerned with the opening mode of crack growth. Stability and crack path problems are relatively well understood in this case and it is expected that a crack grows in its own plane. However, cracks may exist in different orientations and moreover more than one crack may be found in a structure.
