2015For fracture mechanics, the crack propagation law is often modelled by the linear model usually known as Paris law. This law depends on two constants characteristic of the material. The existence of a correlation between the Paris-Erdogan model parameters was the focal point of several research studies since 1971.

1983The literature on the subject of the mechanism of fatigue crack growth is reviewed. Historically two different mechanisms have been proposed. One is based upon the concept of damage accumulation, the other on a plastic sliding-off process at the tip of the advancing crack.

Simplified Modeling and Detailed Crack Propagation Analysis for Cracked Pipes
Volume 8: Seismic Engineering, 2005Two analysis approaches for a cracked pipe subjected to a seismic load were focused on. The first approach is a simplified modeling technique using a nonlinear spring element. A degrading model called a deteriorating distributed element was improved to simulate the asymmetric and degrading behavior of a cracked pipe.
