On Crack-Tip Stresses as Crack-Tip Radii Decrease

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2010
In classical elasticity, when cracks are modeled with stress-free elliptical holes, stress singularities occur as crack-tip root radii go to zero. This raises the question of when crack-tip stresses first start to depart from physical reality as radii go to zero.

Dissolution at a Ductile Crack Tip

Physical Review Letters, 2021
The growth of cracks can be substantially influenced by the environment. Atomic modeling provides a means to isolate the action of individual mechanisms involved in such complex processes. Here, we utilize a newly implemented multiscale modeling approach to assess the role of material dissolution on long crack growth in a ductile material.
