Abstract In this paper a new method is presented to determine the crack-tip opening displacement (CTOD) for the center cracked plate with uniaxial uniform tension load. The maximum crack opening displacement (MCOD) is adopted to estimate CTOD. Based on the series of calculation results by elastic–plastic finite element simulation, an explicit ...

Effect of a variation in material properties on the crack tip opening displacement
ABSTRACTThis paper investigates the effect of a variation in material properties on the crack tip opening displacement, a parameter often used in the prediction of fatigue and fracture. This situation is typical when a component is subjected to a relatively slow temperature fluctuation or the material properties undergo direct changes, such as due to a

Fiber-optic crack-tip opening displacement sensor for concrete
Cement and Concrete Composites, 1997Abstract The development of a fiber-optic sensor for embedment in cementitious composites and measurement of displacements associated with the opening of microcracks are described. The sensor can be employed as a transducer for measurement of crack-tip opening displacements during fracture tests.

Crack tip opening displacement in a linear strain hardening material
Mechanics of Materials, 2013Abstract For a linear strain hardening material, we investigate the strain hardening effect on the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) and obtain some interesting results. The nonlinear constitutive equation is simplified into a valid form, and a hardening function is introduced to solve this problem analytically.
