Effect of Cracking on Corrosion of Steel in Concrete
It is generally recognized that cracks provide easy access to ingress of chlorides in concrete and hence, the initiation of corrosion of steel in cracked concrete occurs at early stage.

Predicting failure of specimens with either surface cracks or corner cracks at holes [PDF]
A previously developed fracture criterion was applied to fracture data for surface-cracked specimens subjected to remote tensile loading and for specimens with a corner crack (or cracks) emanating from a circular hole subjected to either remote tensile ...

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Study on the Attribute Characteristics of Road Cracks Detected by Ground-Penetrating Radar
Cracks are a common form of road distress that can significantly impact pavement integrity. Accurate detection of the attribute characteristics of cracks, including the type, location (top and bottom), width, and orientation, is crucial for effective ...

A total life prediction model for stress concentration sites [PDF]
Fatigue crack growth tests were performed on center crack panels and radial crack hole samples. The data were reduced and correlated with the elastic parameter K taking into account finite width and corner crack corrections.

Corrosion induced cracking: Effect of different corrosion rates on crack width evolution
Reinforcement corrosion leads to several damage types that influence the structure service lifetime, among which can be mentioned the cracking of concrete cover due to the increase in volume of the oxides with respect to the original volume of the parent steel.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.
