A total life prediction model for stress concentration sites [PDF]

open access: yes
Fatigue crack growth tests were performed on center crack panels and radial crack hole samples. The data were reduced and correlated with the elastic parameter K taking into account finite width and corner crack corrections.

Double Helical Plasmonic Antennas

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic double helical antennas funnel circularly polarized light to the nanoscale, offering strong chiroptical interaction and directional light emission. Extending a single helix design tool, this study combines numerical modeling with experimental validation, revealing large, broadband dissymmetry factors in the visible range.

Finite Element Modeling of Crack Width and Localization in Reinforced Concrete

open access: yesBuildings
The crack width assessment and reliable modeling of the crack localization process are essential for accurately modeling crack propagation, which is critical for evaluating deflections, serviceability limit states, and the redistribution of internal ...

Clean‐Limit 2D Superconductivity in a Thick Exfoliated Kagome Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports clean‐limit 2D superconductivity in a thick kagome system, analogous to the 3D case. It observes a drop in superfluid stiffness near the superconducting transition and a cusp‐like feature in the angular dependence of the upper critical field.

A Subpixel Concrete Crack Measurement Method Based on the Partial Area Effect

open access: yesBuildings
To improve the accuracy of concrete crack measurement with a machine vision method in structural health monitoring and in technical status evaluation, a subpixel crack measurement method based on the partial area effect was proposed.

Host‐Directed Biomaterials for Combatting Bloodstream Infections: From Macrocyclic Peptides to Immune‐Activating Cell Backpacks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Development of an improved cracking method to reduce the variability in testing the healing efficiency of self-healing mortar containing encapsulated polymers

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Concrete cracking can result in a significant reduction of the durability and the service life due to the ingress of aggressive agents Self-healing concrete is able to heal cracks without external intervention, thereby mitigating the need for manual ...
