Concrete cracking prediction under combined prestress and strand corrosion

Structure and Infrastructure Engineering, 2019
This study investigates strand corrosion-induced concrete cracking under various prestress experimentally and analytically. Experimental data on the critical time of cover cracking, crack width and corrosion loss obtained from the accelerated corrosion ...

Analysis of crack-dislocation interaction: crack closure, crack opening

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1994
Abstract The decrease in stress intensity factor, expected from dislocation emission at a crack tip, can be achieved either through a change in crack tip radius (blunting) or through a crack closure induced by the dislocation (shielding) opposite to the opening imposed by the external stress field.

Crack-crack interactions in bimaterials

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1993
Abstract The effect of a small crack on the SIF at the tip of a neighbouring main crack is studied using the finite element method. Both collinear and stacked parallel arrangements are examined. Two extreme orientations of cracks with respect to the interface are considered.

Crack-crack and crack-pore interactions in stressed granite

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1979
Abstract Scanning electron microscope observations of stress-induced crack growth, causing crack-crack and crack-pore interactions within individual grains of Barre granite, show that photoelastic models of cracks are essentially correct and applicable to rock.

Multiple-cracked fatigue crack growth by BEM

Computational Mechanics, 1995
The dual boundary element method is applied to the two-dimensional linear elastic analysis of fatigue problem of multiple-cracked body. For each crack, the traction integral equation is applied on one surface of the crack, while the usual displacement integral equation is used simultaneously on the other. General multiple crack growth problem is solved

Relation Between Crack Velocity and Crack Arrest

2008
Initiation fracture toughness is a material parameter well established to predict crack initiation. An improved fracture design for security component could be obtained in predicting crack arrest. Arrest fracture toughness can be used for that purpose.

Crack, crack house sex, and HIV risk

Archives of Sexual Behavior, 1995
Limited attention has been focused on HIV risk behaviors of crack smokers and their sex partners, yet there is evidence that the crack house and the crack-using life-style may be playing significant roles in the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Cracks and Crack Control in Concrete Structures

PCI Journal, 1988
T he material presented in this paper is based on more than 30 years of research, observations and experience concerning causes, control, and consequences of cracking in concrete structures. This extensive background was helpful in the preparation of this paper which deals with questions of concrete cracking.
