Understanding brønsted-acid catalyzed monomolecular reactions of Alkanes in Zeolite Pores by combining insights from experiment and theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Acidic zeolites are effective catalysts for the cracking of large hydrocarbon molecules into lower molecular weight products required for transportation fuels.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Mechanical properties of pressure-frozen ice under triaxial compressive stress

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Artificial ground freezing is an effective method for underground constructions in deep alluvium. To study the compressive strength of frozen soil under high ground pressure and high hydraulic pressure, it is necessary to understand the mechanical ...

Effect of Cracking on Corrosion of Steel in Concrete

open access: yes, 2018
It is generally recognized that cracks provide easy access to ingress of chlorides in concrete and hence, the initiation of corrosion of steel in cracked concrete occurs at early stage.

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

Enhanced cracking resistance and deposition of alloy 36 via accelerated cooling and TiC addition during wire arc additive manufacturing

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping
The sensitivity of the single-phase, low thermal expansion (LTE) alloy 36 (Fe-36Ni) to intergranular cracking hinders its processability during additive manufacturing.

Sound speeds, cracking and the stability of self-gravitating anisotropic compact objects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Using the concept of cracking we explore the influence that density fluctuations and local anisotropy have on the stability of local and non-local anisotropic matter configurations in general relativity.

How Does Silo Storage Time Affect Pavement Durability in Cold Weather Climates? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
One of the most significant problems in asphalt pavements in cold weather climates like New England is thermal cracking. Thermal cracks allow water to penetrate into a pavement, significantly weakening the entire structure which necessitates expensive ...

Multi‐omics and low‐input proteomics profiling reveals dynamic regulation driving pluripotency initiation in early mouse embryos

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mouse pre‐implantation development involves a transition from totipotency to pluripotency. Integrating transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, low‐input proteomics and functional assays, we show that eight‐cell embryos retain residual totipotency features, whereas cytoskeletal remodeling regulated by the ubiquitin‐proteasome system drives progression ...

A Comprehensive Overview of the Clinical, Electrophysiological, and Neuroimaging Features of BPAN: Insights From a New Case Series

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) comprises a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of rare neurological disorders characterized particularly by iron accumulation in the basal ganglia. To date, 15 genes have been associated with NBIA.
