Revisiting the taxonomy of the genus Diatraea Guilding with a focus on Diatraea tabernella Dyar, using dichotomous keys, in Panama [PDF]
Diatraea tabernella Dyar is a key pest of sugarcane in Panama and causes significant crop losses. The objective of this study was to conduct a literature review of the Diatraea genus in Panama, focused mainly on D.

Spatial and Temporal Genetic Analyses Show High Gene Flow Among European Corn Borer (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) Populations Across the Central U.S. Corn Belt [PDF]
European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner), adults were sampled at 13 sites along two perpendicular 720-km transects intersecting in central Iowa and for the following two generations at four of the same sites separated by 240 km in the cardinal ...

Abstract In temperate ecosystems, warming temperatures can advance spring phenology, extend autumn phenology, disrupt dormancy regulation, result in phenological mismatch across taxa, and even lead to increases in the number of generations per year (i.e., increases in voltinism).

The complete mitochondrial genome of Pycnarmon lactiferalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) [PDF]
The complete mitochondrial genome of Pycnarmon lactiferalis (Walker, 1859) has been determined. The entire sequence is 15,219 bp in length which contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and an A + T-rich region. All PCGs start with the typical ATN codon except for COI with CGA.

Genetic structure and gene flow among European corn borer populations from the Great Plains to the Appalachians of North America [PDF]
1 Earlier population genetic spatial analysis of European corn borer Ostrinia nubilalis (Hubner) indicated no genetic differentiation even between locations separated by 720 km.

Dragon fruit (pitaya; Hylocereus undatus) is a promising, new high‐value crop in New Zealand. The large nocturnal flowers open for one night and close early in the morning the following day over a 3‐ to 6‐month long flowering period. In dragon fruit's native range, hawkmoths and bats are key nocturnal pollinators, and honey bees visit flowers during ...

Pests for Dinner: Dietary Composition of Insectivorous Bats in a Fragmented Tropical Dry Forest
Insectivorous bats are key predators of a wide array of arthropods, including species that act as disease vectors and pests, yet such ecological roles remain poorly studied in tropical regions. In this study, we aimed to describe the diet of five insectivorous bat species from the genera Balantiopteryx, Myotis, Mormoops, and Pteronotus inhabiting a ...
