The complete mitochondrial genome of a pyraloid species, Palpita hypohomalia, was sequenced and analyzed. This mitochondrial genome is circular, 15,280 bp long, and includes 37 typical metazoan mitochondrial genes (13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal ...

Feminizing Wolbachia in an insect, Ostrinia furnacalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) [PDF]
Wolbachia, which forms a group of maternally inherited bacteria in arthropods, often cause reproduction alterations in their hosts, such as cytoplasmic incompatibility, parthenogenesis, male-killing, hybrid breakdown and feminization. To date, Wolbachia-induced feminization has been reported only in isopods.

In the highly sexual-dimorphic nocturnal moth, Acentria ephemerella Denis & Schiffermüller 1775, the aquatic and wingless female possesses a refracting superposition eye, whose gross structural organization agrees with that of the fully-winged male.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Pycnarmon lactiferalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) [PDF]
The complete mitochondrial genome of Pycnarmon lactiferalis (Walker, 1859) has been determined. The entire sequence is 15,219 bp in length which contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and an A + T-rich region. All PCGs start with the typical ATN codon except for COI with CGA.

The investigations evaluated the performance of the native parasitoid Exorista larvarum (L.) on last instar Cydalima perspectalis (Walker) larvae, using the factitious host Galleria mellonella (L.) as a control. Laboratory bioassays were conducted using no‐choice and choice (1:1 and 5:5) experimental designs.

Pheromone trap use for monitoring Striacosta albicosta in dry edible beans was evaluated across multiple trap designs, lure replacement intervals, and insecticide timings. Bucket traps captured the most moths, yet trap counts poorly predicted crop damage.

Leaf extracts of Coffea racemosa inhibit digestive trypsins and impair the development of two major lepidopteran pests, Spodoptera frugiperda and Diatraea saccharalis. While both species showed significant enzymatic inhibition, biological responses differed markedly. D. saccharalis exhibited high mortality, whereas S.

The parasitic behaviour of Amobia distorta and the defensive behaviour of its hosts, Anterhynchium flavomarginatum (native species) and A. gibbifrons (probably non‐native), were observed. Abstract Two Anterhynchium species, A. flavomarginatum and A. gibbifrons, are solitary tube‐renting eumenine wasps that occur sympatrically in Japan.

Preservative Ethanol From Stomach Contents Is a Reliable Proxy for Diet DNA Metabarcoding
We tested whether DNA metabarcoding of preservative ethanol can substitute bulk stomach contents for reconstructing diets. Using two ethanol DNA extraction methods (precipitation and drying), the resulting profiles showed minor differences relative to each other and to bulk contents in richness, composition, and read counts, mostly limited to low ...
