Dura mater‐preserving technique for fetal brain extraction after intrauterine death with prolonged retention

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Examination of the fetal brain represents a crucial step in the diagnostic assessment of fetal death in utero, particularly in cases of unexplained intrauterine fetal death (IUFD). Prolonged intrauterine retention, advanced autolysis, and the intrinsic structural immaturity of the fetal brain frequently compromise tissue integrity, limiting ...

Hox Gene Variation Drives Morphological Specialization of Humpback Grouper Cromileptes altivelis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Cromileptes altivelis exhibits a distinctive “sunken head and humpback” morphology, formed through cranial remodeling. Genetic analyses identified unique amino acid variants in Hoxa7a and Hoxa10b, with functional tests confirming their role in enhancing osteoblast activity and driving cranial remodeling.

Geographic Patterns of Head Morphology in Syngnathus typhle Across Marine Regions

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Morphometric analysis of Syngnathus typhle head shape shows distinct geographic patterns across Baltic, North, Atlantic, and Mediterranean marine regions, driven by variation in snout length, head depth, and eye position. Findings provide a non‐invasive baseline for conservation monitoring.

A New Model of Feeding Biomechanics Based on Tied‐Arch Principles

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This new biomechanical model explains the major stress and strain patterns generated through the cranium during biting. The model proposes that the cranium resolves bite‐induced reaction forces through arcs of compressive stress that span the cranial structure between biting teeth and both jaw joints.

A Deep Model Framework for Morphological Trait Imputation Across Taxonomic Groups

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
The model first applies a correlation‐based feature selection module to filter redundant predictors, enhancing stability and interpretability. ABSTRACT Incomplete morphological trait data pose major hurdles for trait‐based analyses, particularly when missing values, multicollinearity, and sparse sampling constrain inference.
