Cranial nerve involvement in Charcot–Marie–Tooth Disease

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2017
Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT) is a rare disorder with less than 200,000 cases reported in the US every year, making diagnosis challenging. MR and CT imaging has become more common in the evaluation of CMT to identify areas of disease involvement.A 27-year-old female from Guatemala with a past history of polio initially presented to the emergency ...

α‐Synuclein pathology in the cranial and spinal nerves in Lewy body disease

Neuropathology, 2015
Accumulation of phosphorylated α‐synuclein in neurons and glial cells is a histological hallmark of Lewy body disease (LBD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA). Recently, filamentous aggregations of phosphorylated α‐synuclein have been reported in the cytoplasm of Schwann cells, but not in axons, in the peripheral nervous system in MSA, mainly in the ...

CT of cranial nerve involvement in external ear disease

1991
In malignant external otitis (MEO), the infection may spread from the external auditory meatus (EAM) along several routes: directly into the adjacent mastoid bone, anteriorly into the parotid gland and tem-poro-mandibular joint and inferiorly into the soft tissues of the infratemporal fossa.

Hodgkin's Disease

Archives of Neurology, 1962
Neurological symptoms are by no means rare in Hodgkin's disease. Usually they are the result of either an invasion of the vertebral canal with compression of the spinal cord or of involvement of peripheral nerves; rarely they are attributable to intracranial deposits.

Simultaneous involvement of third and sixth cranial nerve in a patient with Lyme disease.

Neuroradiology, 2002
We report a 57-year-old woman with neuroborreliosis presenting with headache, shoulder muscle pain and double vision. MRI demonstrated enhancement of the right third and sixth cranial nerves. A 3D MP-RAGE sequence was used to perform multiplanar reformations to show this more graphically.

Cranial Nerve and Cervical Root Enhancement in an Infant With Polymerase Gamma Mutation Mitochondrial Disease

Pediatric Neurology, 2014
Nuclear polymerase gamma (POLG) mutations are the most common cause of inherited mitochondrial disease. POLG mutation diseases have a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations; the lethal infantile form is myocerebrohepatopathy spectrum.A 4-month-old boy was referred for poor feeding, emesis, failure to thrive, and hypotonia.Brain computed tomography ...

Electrophysiologic Investigation of Lower Cranial Nerve Diseases by Means of Magnetically Stimulated Neuromyography of the Larynx

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1992
Zoom endoscopic electromyography of the larynx, as introduced in 1979, has contributed greatly to the diagnosis of lower cranial nerve palsies, but in the early stage of a vagus nerve disorder one cannot investigate the nerve conduction from the brain stem to the laryngeal muscles with electrical stimulation.

Multiple Cranial Nerve Enhancement: Uncommon Imaging Finding in Early Infantile Krabbe's Disease

Journal of Neuroimaging, 2010
ABSTRACT Multiple cranial nerve enhancement in early infantile Krabbe's disease is an uncommon imaging finding. We present an 8‐month‐old infant with early infantile Krabbe's disease with enhancement of multiple cranial nerves and optic nerve hypertrophy.
