Can One Make Any Crash Prediction in Finance Using the Local Hurst Exponent Idea?

open access: yes, 2003
We apply the Hurst exponent idea for investigation of DJIA index time-series data. The behavior of the local Hurst exponent prior to drastic changes in financial series signal is analyzed.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

A meta-learning approach to improving transferability for freeway traffic crash risk prediction

open access: yesDigital Transportation and Safety
Crash risk prediction plays a vital role in preventing freeway traffic accidents. Due to the limited availability of crash data in some freeway sections, model transferability of crash risk prediction has become an essential topic in traffic safety ...

Ecosystem‐Centered Robot Design: Toward Ecoresorbable Sustainability Robots (ESRs)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Robots exploring natural ecosystems can support monitoring and conservation, but must adopt ecosystem‐centered design to avoid pollution, waste, and damage. This review proposes guidelines for co‐designing ecoresorbable sustainability robots (ESRs), uniting materials, robotics, and ecological contexts in a single framework.

ON THE UTILITY OF SORNETTE’S CRASH PREDICTION MODEL [PDF]

open access: yesAnalele Universităţii Constantin Brâncuşi din Târgu Jiu : Seria Economie, 2015
Stock market crashes have been a constant subject of interest among capital market researchers. Crashes’ behavior has been largely studied, but the problem that remained unsolved until recently, was that of a prediction algorithm.

A Quantum Framework for Protein Binding‐Site Structure Prediction on Utility‐Level Quantum Processors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a hybrid quantum‐classical framework for accurate prediction of protein structures on utility‐level quantum processors. We evaluate the practical application of the Variational Quantum Eigen‐solver (VQE) in protein structure prediction and demonstrate its superiority over state‐of‐the‐art deep learning methods in molecular docking ...
