Crashworthiness—in Perspective
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1972Crashworthiness for automotive vehicles concerns more than how the fenders bend. The total system is involved from the vehicle's structure to the occupant's restraint. Field accident data must be used to establish the mix of variables required to provide an acceptable level of crashworthiness.

On Computational Methods for Crashworthiness
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1988<div class="htmlview paragraph">The evolution of computational methods for crashworthiness and related fields is described and linked with the decreasing cost of computational resources and with improvements in computational methodologies. The latter includes more effective time integration procedures and more efficient elements.

Crashworthiness of helicopter subfloor structures
International Journal of Impact Engineering, 2002To improve a helicopter design concept, which meets structural and crashworthiness requirements, a research program is undertaken to study the energy absorption capability of a subfloor structure. In particular, crash tests are performed on the subfloor structure and on the intersection elements, which are components of the structure and can create ...

Crashworthiness of Aluminum Structures
Crashworthiness, Occupant Protection and Biomechanics in Transportation Systems, 1999Abstract There is a growing recognition by the auto makers of the benefits of aluminum for vehicle structures. While there is now no doubt that the structural demands of vehicles can be met with aluminum, it is less well appreciated that such structures can also be designed to provide a high level of crashworthiness.

Magnesium for Crashworthy Components
2016Most applications of magnesium in automobiles are for nonstructural components. However, the light weight properties of magnesium make it attractive in structural applications where energy absorption in a crash is critical. Because most deformation in a crash occurs as bending rather than simple tension or compression, the advantages of magnesium are ...

2018
While no aeronautical engineer expects or wants their design to crash, accidents do happen, and in the case of aircraft, have obvious potential to be catastrophic. How an aircraft responds after a crash, in terms of access to emergency exits, resistance to fire in passenger and crew compartments, and continued structural integrity to facilitate easy ...

CRASHWORTHY TROOP SEAT INVESTIGATION
1974Abstract : The purpose of this investigation was to perform a research program for the development, analytical verification, mockup evaluation, and comparison of designs for practical crashworthy forward-, aft-, and side-facing troop seating systems for U.S. Army helicopters.

Crashworthy Landing Gear Study
1973Abstract : The purpose of the reported effort was twofold: to develop rotary- wing landing gear concepts and criteria which, when applied, would lessen the magnitude of crash forces transferred to occupiable areas of helicopters involved in severe yet survivable accidents; to use the concepts and criteria to design, fabricate, and test an experimental ...
