Tractable near-optimal policies for crawling

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance We present a tractable algorithm that provides a near-optimal solution to the crawling problem, a fundamental challenge at the heart of web search: Given a large quantity of distributed and dynamic web content, what pages do we choose to ...

Collective motion of cells crawling on a substrate: roles of cell shape and contact inhibition [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Contact inhibition plays a crucial role in cell motility, wound healing, and tumour formation. By mimicking the mechanical motion of cells crawling on a substrate, we constructed a minimal model of migrating cells that naturally gives rise to contact ...

Covalent Adaptable Networks with Associative Siloxane Exchange Enabled by Amide‐Based Internal Catalysis: Designing for Reprocessability and Extrudability by Increasing the Cross‐Link Density

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Internally catalyzed siloxane dynamic chemistry is demonstrated resulting from amides covalently linked through alkyl chains to siloxanes. The alkyl length in the siloxane‐containing monomer tunes the network cross‐link density. Siloxane exchange dynamics are faster with increasing cross‐link density, because associative exchange is second order in ...

Social-educational evolution of crawling [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Human Sport and Exercise, 2013
For an adult who observes, a crawling baby is a tender and fun image, even though it’s not possible to imagine what can be hidden behind this movement. There are lot of thoughts on it, for example the idea that crawling is easier than walking alone and so children prefer it as it is their first physical movement.

Developing Cathode Films for Practical All‐Solid‐State Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The development of all‐solid‐state lithium‐sulfur batteries offers higher specific energies and lower costs compared to state‐of‐the‐art Li‐ion batteries. However, a lack of mechanistic understanding hinders advancement. This review analyzes key electrode parameters, evaluates progress in enhancing ion/electron percolation, and addresses ...

Use it or lose it? Effects of age, experience, and disuse on crawling

open access: yesDevelopmental Psychobiology, 2018
What happens to early acquired but later abandoned motor skills? To investigate effects of disuse on early-developing motor skills, we examined crawling in two groups of habitual crawlers (34 6-12-month-old infants and five adults with Uner Tan Syndrome)

An earthworm-inspired soft crawling robot controlled by friction [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics, 2017
We present the design, fabrication, modeling and feedback control of an earthworm-inspired soft robot that crawls on flat surfaces by actively changing the frictional forces acting on its body.

Profile-Based Focused Crawling for Social Media-Sharing Websites

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2009
We present a novel profile-based focused crawling system for dealing with the increasingly popular social media-sharing websites. In this system, we treat the user profiles as ranking criteria for guiding the crawling process.

High‐Performance Recyclable Polyester Elastomers Through Transient Strain‐Stiffening

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transient strain‐crystallization simultaneously strengthens and toughens block polyester elastomers while conserving recyclability. Using controlled polymerization catalysis and commercial monomers, block polyester elastomers outperform current commercial elastomers, entering a new region of tensile mechanical property space.

TAXI at SemEval-2016 Task 13: a Taxonomy Induction Method based on Lexico-Syntactic Patterns, Substrings and Focused Crawling

open access: yesInternational Workshop on Semantic Evaluation, 2016
We present a system for taxonomy construction that reached the first place in all subtasks of the SemEval 2016 challenge on Taxonomy Extraction Evaluation.
