Discovery of an Adaptive Neuroimmune Response Driving Itch and Fast Tick Removal with Implications for Preventing Pathogen Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Itch‐induced tick removal (IITR): An acquired neuroimmune mechanism, itch‐induced tick removal, develops after repeated tick exposure, mobilizing T cells and macrophages at the tick bite site to trigger a rapid scratching response that facilitates timely tick removal within a critical window that precedes the transmission of many tick‐borne pathogens ...

Diminished Signal‐to‐Noise Ratio Disrupts Somatosensory Population Encoding and Drives Tactile Hyposensitivity in the Fmr1−/y Autism Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study provides a translational approach for linking neural activity to tactile deficits in autism. By combining psychophysics with cortical recordings in a mouse model of autism, we show that low signal‐to‐noise ratio in somatosensory neurons weakens population encoding of fine touch, impairing detection, decoding, and leading to perceptual ...

Mild Focal Cooling Decouples Dendrites to Reconfigure Cortical Output

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mild cooling of the cortical surface selectively modulates apical dendritic excitability, plasticity, and somato‐dendritic coupling, while uncoupling these effects from basal dendrites, and reshapes apical‐driven responses in barrel cortex during whisker touch.

Phenytoin Cream for the Treatment of Neuropathic Pain: Case Series

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2018
BACKGROUND: Neuropathic pain can be disabling, and is often difficult to treat. Within a year, over half of all patients stop taking their prescribed neuropathic pain medication, which is most probably due to side effects or disappointing analgesic ...

Design and construction of a Cherenkov imager for charge measurement of nuclear cosmic rays

open access: yes, 2011
A proximity focusing Cherenkov imager called CHERCAM, has been built for the charge measurement of nuclear cosmic rays with the CREAM instrument. It consists of a silica aerogel radiator plane across from a detector plane equipped with 1,600 1" diameter ...

The Enhanced Whey Protein Oral Bioavailability and Muscle Anabolism Ability by a Simple and Effective Piperine‐Whey Protein Synergistic Codelivery System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
WP(Pip) is a mixture of whey protein and piperine‐loaded nanoemulsion stabilized by WP through microfluidic homogenization. Acting as a “smart key,” piperine opens epithelial tight junctions to enhance absorption of whey protein and, thereby increasing circulating amino acid availability, synergistically up‐regulates the mTOR signaling pathway in ...

Anti-inflammatory activity of sappan wood extract cream (Caesalpinia sappan) in porphyromonas gingivalis-induced gingivitis rats models

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal
Background: Gingivitis is a dysbiotic condition characterized by persistent inflammation caused by a disease-associated multispecies bacterial population that has established itself in the subgingival region.

Depletion of p75NTR in Schwann Cells Driven by Inflammation Mediates Cutaneous Pain in Psoriasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Psoriasis‐like inflammation induces proliferation and molecular remodeling of cutaneous Schwann cells, marked by reduced p75NTR and increased NGF expression. IL‐17A promotes this process, whereas Schwann cell‐specific p75NTR overexpression alleviates cutaneous pain in vivo.
