Development and validation of computable Phenotype to Identify and Characterize Kidney Health in Adult Hospitalized Patients [PDF]
Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in hospitalized patients and a common cause for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and increased hospital cost and mortality. By timely detection of AKI and AKI progression, effective preventive or therapeutic measures could be offered.

Bacterial pneumonia is the sixth leading cause of death. In this study, an inhalable polymeric nanoparticle NPFCPS‐P is developed, which under US stimulation showed high efficacy in the treatment of acute bacterial pneumonia. This nanoplatform would be much less prone to select bacterial resistance and represented a promising measure for antibiotics ...

A cell death self‐reporting photodynamic theranostic nanoagent (CDPN) is developed that integrates photodynamic therapy (PDT) with real‐time K⁺ imaging to provide timely feedback on treatment responses. This approach enables the optimization of the drug‐light interval (DLI), a critical factor in PDT, resulting in significantly enhanced antitumor ...

Identifying Sub-Phenotypes of Acute Kidney Injury using Structured and Unstructured Electronic Health Record Data with Memory Networks [PDF]
Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a common clinical syndrome characterized by the rapid loss of kidney excretory function, which aggravates the clinical severity of other diseases in a large number of hospitalized patients. Accurate early prediction of AKI can enable in-time interventions and treatments.

In this study, Merkoçi and his research group present a polymer‐based synthesis to enhance the stability of Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles. The resulting PB‐infused catalytic hetero‐interface architecture (PB‐CHIA) achieves complete two‐dimensional (2D) and three‐dimensional (3D) substrate coverage (glassy carbon and laser‐induced graphene electrodes)

This study uncovers that CD38high monocytes discriminate sepsis and sterile inflammation and are associated with 28‐day mortality in bacterial sepsis. Targeting CD38 therapy reduces inflammatory response in monocytes and in sepsis mice model. Mechanistically, CD38‐HIF‐1α/glycolysis/MGO loop exacerbates sepsis‐induced immune dysregulation.

Feature-Enhanced Machine Learning for All-Cause Mortality Prediction in Healthcare Data [PDF]
Accurate patient mortality prediction enables effective risk stratification, leading to personalized treatment plans and improved patient outcomes. However, predicting mortality in healthcare remains a significant challenge, with existing studies often focusing on specific diseases or limited predictor sets. This study evaluates machine learning models
