Creep and Creep Testing

1992
Creep is the continued slow straining of a material under constant load. Another phenomenon, related to creep, is relaxation. This is the reduction in the level of stress within a material with time when the strain is constant. Both creep and relaxation are of consequence with many thermoplastics at ordinary temperatures but do not become significant ...

New Machines for Creep and Creep-Rupture Tests

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1945
Abstract This paper describes two new creep-rupture machines. One combines eight conventional lever-arm creep machines into a single unit but with individual furnaces, controls, and recording equipment. The elongation of each test specimen is indicated by a revolution counter and can be read directly.

Applications of Creep Tests

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1933
Abstract Analytical solutions of problems which involve creep phenomena and which are of practical interest are at present very limited in number. This paper discusses four specific problems for which solutions have been presented: namely, the problem of the flanged and bolted pipe joint under creep conditions, and the three problems of ...

Report on Tubular Creep Tests

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1942
Abstract This report comprises the results obtained on tubular specimens tested under internal pressure as measured for circumferential and longitudinal creep. In addition, tensile-test specimens of the same material were run as a comparison. This work follows closely an investigation’ reported upon previously.

Testing Methods for Creep

2017
The major techniques for collecting creep data are as follows: (a) tensile creep testing; (b) compressive creep testing; (c) flexural (bend) testing for creep; and (d) impression (hardness) creep testing.

Creep in Mixed Gas Tests

CORROSION 1990, 1990
Abstract Corrosion product creep has been identified as a mechanism of failure of electrical connectors and components. Failure due to this mechanism can be produced in flowing mixed gas tests. This paper presents the results of studies to determine the rate of corrosion product creep over a variety of metals and alloys in a flowing ...

Correlation of Tension Creep Tests With Relaxation Tests

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1947
Abstract This paper shows that a satisfactory estimate of a relaxation graph may be obtained from the usual tension creep curves. The validity of methods for simple relaxation is demonstrated on the basis of experimental agreement between calculated and test results.
