Multitone signals with low crest factor

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1997
After an introductory discussion of real-valued and complex signals, it is shown that minimizing the crest factor (CF) of multitone signals is closely related to the construction of complex sequences with low sidelobes in their aperiodic autocorrelation function. Inspired by this observation, a lower bound on the achievable CF is derived.

Crest factor optimization of the multisine waveform for bioimpedance spectroscopy

Physiological Measurement, 2014
The multisine excitation is widely used in impedance measurements to retain the advantages of the sine wave, while reducing the measurement time. Adding up sine waves increases the amplitude of the excitation signal, but, for the linearity assumption to be valid, the overall amplitude of the signal needs to be kept low.

Constrained Clipping for Crest Factor Reduction in OFDM

IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting, 2006
In this paper, we propose a constrained clipping method for reducing the peak to average power ratio (PAR) or crest factor of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal. This is a transmitter-side processing technique that does not impose any modification at the receiver.

Analysis and Design of Multi-Tone Signal Generation Algorithms for Reducing Crest Factor

Asian Test Symposium, 2020
This paper describes the similarity of the crest factor reduction effect among the four algorithms (Newman, Kitayoshi, Schroeder and Narahashi) and unifies their initial phase setting equations using the derivation of the Narahashi phase.

Crest factor minimization in the frequency domain

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2002
This paper examines the minimization of the signal crest factor using a frequency-domain method. This method is based on the observation that low crest factor signals possess properties that reduce the effect of system nonlinearities. The main idea of this method is that instead of setting the signal crest factor as the cost function to be minimized ...

Crest Factor Reduction in Multicarrier Transmission by Low Crest Mapping

2006 First International Symposium on Pervasive Computing and Applications, 2006
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has several properties which makes it an attractive modulation technique for High Speed Data Transmission. However one major disadvantage of OFDM is that the time domain OFDM signal which is a sum of several sinusoids leads to a high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR).

Impacts of Crest Factor Reduction and Digital Predistortion on Linearity and Power Efficiency of Power Amplifiers

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems - II - Express Briefs, 2019
The linearity and power efficiency are two main factors of power amplifiers (PA), which can hardly be improved together. Digital predistortion (DPD) compensates for nonlinearity and memory effects of PAs in high efficiency zone.

An Efficient Directional Modulation Transmitter With Novel Crest Factor Reduction Technique

IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2019
Directional modulation (DM) is a physical layer security technology based on the multiantenna structure. Similar to traditional transmitters, the DM transmitter is also faced with the problem of high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and nonlinear ...

Crest Factor Controlled Multi-Tone Signals for Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Testing

International Test Conference in Asia, 2019
This paper investigates multi-tone signals for short-time and high quality testing of analog circuit frequency response. First, we study three multi-tone signal generation algorithms for minimum crest factor using an arbitrary waveform generator, and ...

Modulating the activity of neural crest regulatory factors

Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 2007
Substantial progress has been made in defining the regulatory factors involved in generating multipotent neural crest cells at the neural plate border of vertebrate embryos, controlling the onset of their migratory behavior, and directing their differentiation into one of a diverse array of derivatives.
