Structural and Functional Stability of Natural Actomyosin From Freshwater Snail (Bellamya bengalensis): Unraveling Thermal and pH Effects

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Natural actomyosin from B. bengalensis exhibited maximum solubility (∼69.9%) at 40°C and stability near neutral pH, with minimum solubility at pH 4. Surface hydrophobicity and emulsifying activity peaked at 50°C, whereas Ca2+‐ATPase and foaming peaked at 40°C. DSC and SDS–PAGE confirmed denaturation above 40°C.

An Insight into the Presence of Antimicrobial Resistance Genes in Opportunistic Pathogenic Bacteria Isolated from Farm-Reared Crickets

open access: yesMicroorganisms
To support the role of insects as sustainable feed and food ingredients, evaluating their potential microbiological risk and safety is crucial. In this study, we investigated the presence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes in selected live ...

Preliminary hypothesis on the history of Gryllinae (Orthoptera: Gryllidae) in America and new taxa of both the subtribe Anurogryllina and the genus Megalogryllus

open access: yesАмурский зоологический журнал, 2019
The fauna of the subfamily Gryllinae in America is not very diverse and may be divided into three generic groups: (1) the endemic (for America and adjacent islands) subtribe Anurogryllina, (2) American branch of the subtribe Brachytrupina, (3) one genus (

Embracing Complexity in HRM Research: A Call for System and Process Perspectives

open access: yesHuman Resource Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Human resource management (HRM) is inherently complex. It involves systems of principles, practices, and activities operating at individual, group, organizational, and macro levels, which are interlinked through complex processes. Yet, empirical research has not kept pace with this conceptual richness.

Speciation, Divergence, and the Origin of Gryllus rubens: Behavior, Morphology, and Molecules

open access: yesInsects, 2011
The last 25 years or so has seen a huge resurgence of interest in speciation research. This has coincided with the development and widespread use of new tools in molecular genetics, especially DNA sequencing, to inform ecological and evolutionary ...

Sex-based differences in anti-predator response of crickets to chemical cues of a mammalian predator [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Anti-predator behaviors like vigilance or hiding come at the expense of other fitness increasing behaviors such as foraging. To compensate for this trade-off, prey assess predation risk and modify the frequency of anti-predator behaviors according to the

Visual homing in field crickets and desert ants: a comparative behavioural and modelling study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Visually guided navigation represents a long standing goal in robotics. Insights may be drawn from various insect species for which visual information has been shown sufficient for navigation in complex environments, however the generality of visual ...

Microfracture for full‐thickness chondral lesions of the knee in elite athletes leads to high return‐to‐play rates

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Injuries to the knee are common in elite athletes and often involve damage to the articular cartilage. Given the high demands of elite sport, full‐thickness articular cartilage defects in the knee can be career‐limiting or threatening.
