Estimation of aerosol complex refractive indices for both fine and coarse modes simultaneously based on AERONET remote sensing products [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2017
Climate change assessment, especially model evaluation, requires a better understanding of complex refractive indices (CRIs) of atmospheric aerosols – separately for both fine and coarse modes.

Real‐World Safety and Effectiveness of JAK Inhibitors in Systemic Sclerosis: A Propensity‐Matched Study from the EUSTAR Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective JAK inhibitors (JAKis) have shown promising effects in early‐phase studies of SSc. We aimed to assess the safety and explore effectiveness of JAKis compared to conventional immunosuppressants in SSc. Methods A longitudinal retrospective study of the EUSTAR cohort was performed.

Feasibility of Nitrogen as a Carrier Gas for Inconel Cold Spray in Hydropower Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
N2, despite being nearly two orders of magnitude cheaper than He, is a feasible carrier gas for cold spray Inconel coatings in hydropower repair applications when higher gas temperature and pressure are used. Reducing powder size significantly improved cavitation resistance, while the addition of fine chromium carbide particles further enhanced erosion

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

The radiologist cries “HELLP”!

open access: yesThe British Journal of Radiology, 1991
We report a case of the haemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelets (HELLP) syndrome in a primigravida, in whom ultrasound examination demonstrated large, “geographical” areas of increased echogenicity within the right lobe of the liver. Haematological investigations showed classical features of the HELLP syndrome.
