Crisis? What crisis? Australia after(?) the economic crisis [PDF]

open access: yes
The global economic crisis is not over for Australia. Instead, its effects have been delayed rather than avoided. China’s economic stimulus delayed the impact of the crisis, but as Chinese economy rebalances and its growth slows, Australian policy-makers

Random Matrix Theory and Cross-correlations in Global Financial Indices and Local Stock Market Indices

open access: yes, 2013
We analyzed cross-correlations between price fluctuations of global financial indices (20 daily stock indices over the world) and local indices (daily indices of 200 companies in the Korean stock market) by using random matrix theory (RMT).

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

THE IMPACT OF THE FINANCIAL CRISIS ON MONETARY AND FISCAL POLICY IN THE EURO AREA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Coordnation of both policies allows to avoid crisis situations having destibilizing effect on economy. Cooperation between central bank and government is quite difficult due to preclusive aims of fiscal and monetary policies. Financial crisis in 2008 had

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Age differences in preference and memory for advertisements: the roles of advertisement type and product type

open access: yesHumanities & Social Sciences Communications
Previous research has examined how motivational goals influence decision-making in advertising for both older and younger adults, and the findings support the proposal of socioemotional selective theory (SST), which suggests that older adults pursue ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
