Scheffrahnitermes ubuntu (Isoptera: Apicotermitinae), Description of a New Termite Using a Collaborative Approach to Address the Wallacean Shortfall

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 2, June 2026.
The study of Neotropical Apicotermitinae remains challenging due to the large number of undescribed taxa (Linnean shortfall) as well as the scarcity of distributional data (Wallacean shortfall). Despite recent efforts to reduce the first one, the second remains an even more significant challenge.

Environmental and Spatial Processes Drive the Phylogenetic Diversity and Structure of Planktonic Microeukaryotes Revealed by 18S rDNA Metabarcoding in a Tropical Floodplain

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
The community structure of photosynthetic planktonic microeukaryotes in the floodplain lakes of the Tocantins‐Araguaia River basin is influenced by a combination of environmental filters and spatial processes. Phylogenetic information from this community highlights the importance of conserving less degraded areas to preserve the evolutionary diversity ...

Inoculation and Co‐Inoculation With Plant Growth–Promoting Bacteria in Chickpea: Physiological Aspects and Plant Growth

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The inoculation of plants with growth‐promoting and nitrogen‐fixing bacteria is considered an effective alternative to reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizers and promote plant growth. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculation and co‐inoculation with growth‐promoting bacteria on the physiological traits and growth of chickpea plants.

Surviving in the Amazon Arc of Deforestation: Richness and Defaunation of Mammals in Priority‐Protected Areas of the Brazilian Midwest

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 7, July 2025.
We found rich and compositionally different assemblages of medium and large‐sized mammals in protected areas on the southern edge of Amazon. However, both have high rates of mammal defaunation. We argue that anthropogenic threats in the Amazon Arc of Deforestation are eroding large ungulate populations, especially peccaries.
