Validity of criterion-referenced tests

2001
Introduction Traditionally, validity has been defined as “the degree to which a test measures what it claims, or purports, to be measuring” (Brown, 1996, p. 231). For example, if a criterion-referenced test is designed to measure the objectives of a specific course, the validity of the test could be defended by showing that the test is indeed ...

Empirical Validation of Criterion-Referenced Tests

The Journal of Educational Research, 1985
AbstractThis study examined the test-retest reliability and criterion validity of basal mastery tests of three widely used commercial reading series. Traditional correlational analyses as well as statistical procedures developed specifically for criterion-referenced tests were employed.

Sparse estimation based on a validation criterion

IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference, 2011
A sparse estimator with close ties with the LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) is analysed. The basic idea of the estimator is to relax the least-squares cost function to what the least-squares method would achieve on validation data and then use this as a constraint in the minimization of the l 1 -norm of the parameter vector.

Construct Validity and Criterion-Referenced Testing

Review of Educational Research, 1985
Construct validation is as important for the measurement of school outcomes as of constructs in personality or human abilities. A multifaceted inquiry is called for, bringing both psychological theory and empirical findings to bear upon the meaning of achievement test performance.

Criterion and construct validation of an assessment centre

Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, 1996
This study is an attempt in assessment centre research to apply both criterion and construct validation strategies to a single sample and examine, simultaneously, a relatively comprehensive set of variables including assessor ratings, psychological test measures, supervisory ratings of job performance and actual promotions, hence allowing more direct ...

Examining the range of validity of the Bohm criterion

Journal of Plasma Physics, 2014
This work shows that there is no such thing as a formulation of the Bohm criterion for the case of a collisional plasma. It examines critically the work of several authors who have sought to promote their own version of what has come to be called a collisionally modified Bohm criterion.

An external criterion study of the MMPI validity indices

Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1977
Two hundred and twenty-eight veterans who requested either inpatient or outpatient treatment at a VA Hospital were administered an MMPI and a structured mental status examination (the CAPPS) to determine whether MMPI validity indicators would be useful in the prediction of dissimulation during a structured interview.

Rapid onset: A valid panic disorder criterion?

Depression and Anxiety, 1997
This study examined the value of the DSM-IV time criterion for panic disorder (PD) requiring an abrupt onset to panic attacks (PAs) with a time to peak intensity (TTPI) of less than 10 min, and evaluated features distinguishing rapid onset (TTPI < 10) from prolonged onset (TTPI > 10) panickers.

The Advancement of Altruism as a Criterion of Moral Validity

Contemporary Pragmatism, 2019
Jürgen Habermas’s discourse ethics is a method of intersubjective argumentation conceived to test the validity of moral norms on the basis of their universalizability. As some scholars have argued, Habermas’s proposal is problematic in that the process of argumentation is always affected by the circumstances of inequality and unfairness that pervade ...
