The Buckling of Single-Layer MoS2 Under Uniaxial Compression

open access: yes, 2014
Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to investigate the buckling of single-layer MoS2 under uniaxial compression. The strain rate is found to play an important role on the critical buckling strain, where higher strain rate leads to larger ...

Mechanical behavior of irregular fibers part III : the flexural buckling behavior

open access: yes, 2002
Fiber buckling behavior is associated with fabric-evoked prickle, which affects clothing comfort and aesthetics. In this paper, the flexural buckling behavior of irregular or nonuniform fibers is studied using the finite element method (FEM).

Compressive forces causing rod buckling in sucker rod pumps and using sinker bars to prevent buckling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Sucker rod pumps has been the most commonly used pumps in the petroleum industry. Therefore, many studies associated with sucker rods focuses on maximizing the rod life.

An Experimental Evaluation of Critical Buckling Strain Criteria [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 1: Codes, Standards and Regulations; Design and Constructions; Environmental; GIS/Database Development; Innovative Projects and Emerging Issues, 2000
In the past, a significant amount of investigation into the development of critical buckling strain limit state criteria for pipelines has been conducted and a number of critical strain criteria have been proposed. However, the availability of comparative experimental data that have been collected under representative pipeline operating conditions has ...

A study on the crack presence effect on dynamical behavior of higher-order Quasi-3D composite steel-polymer concrete box section beams via DQFEM

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity
This paper presents a dynamic and critical buckling analysis of the presence of a crack of steel-polymer concrete composite beams modelled using a refined quasi 3D beam theory.

Prescribed pattern transformation in swelling gel tubes by elastic instability

open access: yes, 2012
We present a study on swelling-induced circumferential buckling of tubular shaped gels. Inhomogeneous stress develops as gel swells under mechanical constraints, which gives rise to spontaneous buckling instability without external force.

Effect of Corrosion Time on Critical Buckling Load of AISI 304 Columns [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2018
In this work Corrosion buckling interaction behavior of AISI 304 stainless steel circular columns was investigated. Long and intermediate columns diameter of (6 mm) are tested in as received and corroded condition.

The origin of compression influences geometric instabilities in bilayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Geometric instabilities in bilayered structures control the surface morphology in a wide range of biological and technical systems. Depending on the application, different mechanisms induce compressive stresses in the bilayer.

Buckling critical pressures in collapsible tubes relevant for biomedical flows

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
AbstractThe behaviour of collapsed or stenotic vessels in the human body can be studied by means of simplified geometries like a collapsible tube. The objective of this work is to determine the value of the buckling critical pressure of a collapsible tube by employing Landau’s theory of phase transition.

Prediction of casing critical buckling during shale gas hydraulic fracturing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract Casing deformation during volume fracturing in shale gas horizontal wells is caused by both existing and induced stresses. These stresses jointly alter and compound the stress field around the casing leading to inefficient well stimulation as planned, lack of access into the well for recompletion, future workovers and present imminent danger
