Calculation of Propeller-Excited Whirling Critical Speeds

Journal of Ship Research, 1979
This paper presents a calculation method, suitable for manual calculation or use with a small, desk-top calculator, for estimating the propeller-excited whirling critical speed of a shafting system. The method is especially adaptable to use with a small programmable calculator. Based on a two-support model of the propeller and tailshaft similar to that

Aseismic Design by Way of Critical Excitation

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1973
The critical excitation of a structure is the ground motion which produces the most severe response when compared with all other excitations of the same or lesser intensity. It is a concept which can be used in principle to assess the earthquake resistance of the structure. The paper presents evidence that it holds promise also for use in practice.
