Serum natremia affects health-related quality of life in patients with liver cirrhosis: a prospective, single centre study

open access: yesAnnals of Hepatology, 2013
Introduction. Hyponatremia is associated with high mortality and predicts hepatic encephalopathy but its effect on health-related quality of life remains to be established.Material and methods.

Is It Possible to Predict Strong Earthquakes?

open access: yes, 2014
The possibility of earthquake prediction is one of the key open questions in modern geophysics. We propose an approach based on the analysis of common short-term candidate precursors (2 weeks to 3 months prior to strong earthquake) with the subsequent ...

Trap‐Modified Inverted Organic Photodetectors via Layer‐by‐Layer Processing with Poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trap state engineering in inverted organic photodetectors (OPDs) is achieved via combined layer‐by‐layer (LbL) processing and poly(N‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK) incorporation. LbL reduces the trap density while PVK additives gradually shift trap states from shallow band‐edge to deep mid‐gap levels, tailoring the energy distribution.

Electro‐Active Polymer Actuated Microfiltration Membranes: Design, Performance, and Particle Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The concept of foulant particle manipulation and detachment from active microfiltration membranes via voltage‐driven vibrations is introduced. Actuator components are initially integrated onto the filtration membranes using an airbrush spray printing technique.

The effect of acute, moderate intensity indoor cycling on the temporal resolution of human vision system, measured by critical fusion frequency

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2020
Critical fusion frequency (CFF) reflects the basic temporal function of the visual system and therefore is a good measure of its performance. CFF has been implemented in psychological and pharmacological studies to evaluate cognitive functions.

Applications of the optical fiber to the generation and to the measurement of low-phase-noise microwave signals

open access: yes, 2008
The optical fiber used as a microwave delay line exhibits high stability and low noise and makes accessible a long delay (>100 microseconds) in a wide bandwidth (about 40 GHz, limited by the optronic components).

Biobased Bionic Spider Silk via Electrostatic Complexation for Simultaneously Harvesting Atmospheric Water and Triboelectric Energy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based bionic spider silk and spider web are first prepared using polyelectrolyte complexation technique for the simultaneous harvesting of water and triboelectric energy. The advantage of this process lies on entirely bio‐based materials, fully green water‐processable procedures, extremely high production rate (99.36%), excellent fog harvesting ...

Role of Brain Biomarkers S-100-Beta and Neuron-Specific Enolase for Detection and Follow-Up of Hepatic Encephalopathy in Cirrhosis before, during and after Treatment with L-Ornithine-L-Aspartate

open access: yesGE: Portuguese Journal of Gastroenterology, 2020
Introduction: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE), in the context of liver cirrhosis, seems to result from low-grade cerebral edema of the astrocytes. Serum brain biomarkers S-100-beta und neuron-specific enolase (NSE) are often elevated in brain injury.

Photoconductivity‐Driven Quantum Efficiency Gain in Inorganic Ruddlesden‐Popper Layered Cs2PbBr2I2 Perovskite Photodetector for Visible Light Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rational halogen mixing strategy was employed to shift the bandgap of Cs2PbBr2I2 from ultraviolet to visible region, enabling first realization of a visible‐light photodetector with this 2D layered Ruddlesden‐Popper perovskite material. Under illumination, light‐induced internal field forms and drives trap‐mediated persistent photoconductivity ...

Features of encephalopathy diagnosis in patients with portal hypertension syndrome

open access: yesGastroenterologìa, 2017
Background. Hepatic encephalopathy is a pathological change in the brain functions of non-inflammatory origin, which is manifested by a syndrome of secondary neurological and cognitive disorders caused by a set of deep metabolic disorders, as a result of
