Threat Analysis and Detection in Critical Infrastructure Security

open access: yes, 2009
Critical Infrastructure Protection against threats has become a major issue in modern society, due in particular to the traumatic terrorist attacks of New York and Washington (2001), Madrid (2004), London (2005) and to the very recently train bomb attack

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Nano‐Architected Metallic Metamaterial With Enhanced Fatigue Resistance via Dislocation Starvation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoscale Ni single crystals exhibit remarkable fatigue resistance over an order of magnitude higher than that of bulk single crystals through dislocation starvation. By translating this mechanism into geometric nano‐architecture, nano‐architected Ni single‐crystal metamaterials achieve about twice the fatigue resistance of the bulk, despite their ...
