On the critical and postcritical behaviour of plane frames

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1992
Abstract The aim of the present paper is to show an application of some results of the classical elastica solution for exact critical and postcritical analysis of plane frames. To this effect equilibrium and compatibility equations of perturbed frame configurations are derived.

Planing in Shallow Water at Critical Speed

Journal of Ship Research, 2013
This article summarizes experiments to determine the effect of shallow water on flat-bottomed prismatic hulls towed fixed in heave and trim over a wide range of speed regimes. The experimental design allowed for the separate measurement of pressure forces normal to the bottom and viscous forces tangential to the bottom.

Clustering of the critical branching process on the plane

Studia Scientiarum Mathematicarum Hungarica, 2001
Let be a Poisson random field in R d . Attimet= 0 a critical branching Wiener process is startingfrom eachP 2. It turns out that after a time the particles will be located in dense, small clusters and between these clusters empty domains are located.

Critical alignments in plane mirror interferometry

Precision Engineering, 1993
Abstract Each axis of a plane mirror interferometer has three associated measurement vectors: the interferometer beam, mirror normal, and axis of measurement. The transducer axis of a plane mirror interferometer target is the mirror normal. This contrasts with a retroflector for which the transducer axis is the interferometer beam.

Temperature dependence and anisotropy due to twin planes of the critical current inab-plane

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1996
We report the observation at different currents of voltage-angle characteristics (VAC) of flux creep in YBaCuO single crystals with unidirectional twins in the presence of the magnetic fieldH=1.5 T applied ina−b plane and directed in a small angle range near twin planes (TP).

Nonuniversal and surface critical behavior near a defect plane

Physical Review B, 1989
The existence of nonuniversal, as well as surface (universal) critical behavior near a defect plane is demonstrated on a one-dimensional quantum lattice gas model, belonging to the two-dimensional Ising universality class. According to numerical results the weak defect region is attracted by a line of fixed points starting at the bulk critical point ...

CRITICAL LOAD AND POST-CRITICAL BEHAVIOUR OF LAMINATED PLANE BEAMS

2008
Object of this research is the analysis, within the framework of finite displacements, of laminated plane beams both with straight or curved axis. For such structures, as it is well known, non-negligible transverse shear stresses arise, so that shear strains become an important issue. In the present work a hybrid-mixed finite element model with assumed

Critical reflection of plane waves in the time domain

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1969
The transient response of a hypothetical network that exhibits a frequency-independent phase shift is considered. This occurs, for example, in a physical configuration involving critical reflection of plane waves. For such a system, at a given point in space, the response may precede the applied force.
