Critical Point Theorems and Applications to Differential Equations

Acta Mathematica Sinica, 2004
This paper contains a generalization of the Palais-Smale and Cerami conditions. The new compactness condition is first used to obtain a deformation lemma in real Banach spaces. The main abstract result of this paper is a minimax theorem which generalizes the Rabinowitz saddle point theorem and the Benci-Rabinowitz linking theorem.

Nonlinear difference equations investigated via critical point methods

Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 2009
The authors obtain some critical point theorems in the setting of finite dimensional Banach spaces. Based on those theorems they establish multiple solutions for the following problem: \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta (\phi_p(\Delta u(k-1))=\lambda f(k,u(k)),\quad k\in [1,T],\\ u(0)=u(T+1)=0,\end{cases} \] where \(T\) is a fixed positive integer, \([1,T]\) is ...

Critical-point equations for polydisperse polymer solutions

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1987
Based on the generalized Flory-Huggins concept replacing Huggins’s χ -term by a function depending on a finite number of moments of the molar mass distribution, a simple form of the necessary conditions for the critical state of a polydisperse polymer solution is established in the framework of classical Gibbs ...

Equation of state and critical point of cesium

International Journal of Thermophysics, 1990
Equation-of-state measurements for cesium at temperatures from 350 to 2200 K and pressures from 1 to 60 MPa by means of a hermetically sealed two-zone dilatometer are presented. The experimental range includes the liquid and gaseous phases together with the coexistence curve up to critical point and supercritical region.

Equation of state near the critical point

Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics, 1969
Two functions of state ξ and η are derived, such that any equation of state for the critical region consistent with the scaling hypothesis can be expressed in the form η = (ξ). The representation has the useful property that the function has no unphysical singularities (such as the branch points associated with the critical isotherm or elsewhere in ...

Critical point scaling in the Percus-Yevick equation

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1981
Abstract It is pointed out that the solution of the Percus-Yevick equation for sticky hard spheres, obtained by Baxter, scales exactly in the critical region with classical, Van der Waals exponents. However, even though the correlation functions achieve the Ornstein-Zernike forms, the scaling functions for the equation of state are not classical ...

Critical point equation and closed conformal vector fields

Mathematische Nachrichten, 2020
AbstractIn this article, we study the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional restricted to the space of metrics with constant scalar curvature of unitary volume, for simplicity, CPE metrics. Here, we prove that a CPE metric admitting a non‐trivial closed conformal vector field must be isometric to a round sphere metric, which provides
