Mathematical programs with vanishing constraints: critical point theory

open access: closedJournal of Global Optimization, 2011
We study mathematical programs with vanishing constraints (MPVCs) from a topological point of view. We introduce the new concept of a T-stationary point for MPVC. Under the Linear Independence Constraint Qualification we derive an equivariant Morse Lemma at nondegenerate T-stationary points.

Critical Path Problem under Assignment Constraint—An Application of an Extreme Point Mathematical Programming Problom

open access: closedJournal of Information and Optimization Sciences, 1980
The paper is concerned with the problem of finding a critical path for a network under the assumption that activities of this network can be accompliEhed by a group of men differing in skills. It is assumed that the cost (per unit time) of hiring depends upon a particular man hired.

[110] Critical Point Theory in Mathematics and in Mathematical Physics

open access: closed, 2017
At last year’s Gokova Conference I reported on a “topological approach” to the “new” knot invariants, which ClifF Taubes and I had worked out along lines initiated by Axelrod and Singer [AS] and Kontsevich [K] in their work on 3-manifold invariants.

On the mathematical structure of thin film equations containing a critical point

open access: closedChemical Engineering Science, 1999
Abstract In an accelerating thin liquid film, it is possible for a location to exist in which the flow field passes from subcritical flow, in which waves affect both upstream and downstream locations, to supercritical flow, in which all waves propagate downstream.

The constrained buckling problem of geometrically imperfect beams: a mathematical approach for the determination of the critical instability points

Meccanica, 2014
The constrained buckling problem of geometrically imperfect beams with intermediate unilateral supports is studied in the present paper. The proposed methodology offers the ability to calculate analytically the critical loads and the buckling shape of beams with arbitrary initial geometric imperfections, for a variety of different initial contact ...
