A curricular approach to develop autonomies from the mathematics and scientific education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The purpose of this work is to highlight how the current Spanish education system supports the development of both scientific and mathematic competences. We understand these competences as the set of skills and capabilities needed to use mathematics or

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Sign-changing solutions for some nonlinear problems with strong resonance

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2011
By means of critical point and index theories, we obtain the existence and multiplicity of sign-changing solutions for some elliptic problems with strong resonance at infinity, under weaker conditions.

Respect, Responsibility, Relevance, and Reciprocity: What the 4 Rs of Indigenous Research Offer Toward Decolonizing a Mathematics Classroom

open access: yesEducation Sciences
Working to decolonize one’s mathematics teaching practice can create tensions between honouring Indigenous ways of knowing and being and not appropriating or tokenizing Indigenous cultures.

On a Class of Elliptic Equations for the N-Laplacian in R^n with One-Sided Exponential Growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 35J40, 49J52, 49J40, 46E30By means of a suitable nonsmooth critical point theory for lower semicontinuous functionals we prove the existence of infinitely many solutions for a class of quasilinear Dirichlet ...

Varieties with maximum likelihood degree one

open access: yes, 2014
We show that algebraic varieties with maximum likelihood degree one are exactly the images of reduced A-discriminantal varieties under monomial maps with finite fibers.

Geometric Optimization and Mechanical Performance Enhancement of Auxetic Structures for High‐Impact Applications Through Fused Deposition Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the mechanical performance of three auxetic structures, identifying a re‐entrant‐star hybrid as the most effective for impact absorption. Finite element simulations and experiments demonstrate significant gains in energy absorption and flexural strength after geometric optimization. This study investigates the mechanical performance

Periodic solutions for nonautonomous second order Hamiltonian systems with sublinear nonlinearity

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2011
Some existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions are obtained for nonautonomous second order Hamiltonian systems with sublinear nonlinearity by using the least action principle and minimax methods in critical point theory.
