Critical properties of complex fitness landscapes [PDF]
Evolutionary adaptation is the process that increases the fit of a population to the fitness landscape it inhabits. As a consequence, evolutionary dynamics is shaped, constrained, and channeled, by that fitness landscape. Much work has been expended to understand the evolutionary dynamics of adapting populations, but much less is known about the ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The de Haas van Alphen effect near a quantum critical end point in Sr₃Ru₂O₇ [PDF]
Highly correlated electron materials are systems in which many new states of matter can emerge. A particular situation which favours the formation of exotic phases of the electron liquid in complex materials is that where a quantum critical point (QCP ...

Properties of Neutron Star Critical Collapses [PDF]
Critical phenomena in gravitational collapse opened a new mathematical vista into the theory of general relativity and may ultimately entail fundamental physical implication in the astrophysical realm, especially in gravitational collapse scenarios ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Properties of Critical Points of the Dinew-Popovici Energy Functional
Recently, Dinew and Popovici introduced and studied an energy functional F acting on the metrics in the Aeppli cohomology class of a Hermitian-symplectic metric and showed that in dimension 3 its critical points (if any) are Kähler.

PRIN 2009: Critical point theory and perturbative methods for nonlinear differential equations. Hamiltonian Systems and Partial Differential Equations [PDF]
Many partial differential equations arising in Physics can be seen as innite dimensional Hamiltonian systems. Main examples are the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) and wave (NLW) equations, the beam, membrane and Kirkhoff equations in elasticity theory, the ...

Identification of critical versus robust processing unit operations determining the physical and biochemical properties of cassava-based semolina (gari) [PDF]
The gari‐making process involves several unit operations (U.O.), some of which strongly influence the quality of the end‐product. Two contrasting process scales (laboratory‐scale vs conventional) were compared in order to identify which U.O.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Asymptotic properties of critical points for subcritical Trudinger-Moser functional
On a smooth bounded domain we study the Trudinger-Moser functional Eα(u)≔∫Ω(eαu2−1)dx,u∈H1(Ω){E}_{\alpha }\left(u):= \mathop{\int }\limits_{\Omega }({e}^{\alpha {u}^{2}}-1){\rm{d}}x,\hspace{1.0em}u\in {H}^{1}\left(\Omega ) for α∈(0,2π)\alpha \in \left(0 ...
