An asynchronous message-passing distributed algorithm for the global critical section problem

open access: yes, 2018
This paper considers the global $(l,k)$-CS problem which is the problem of controlling the system in such a way that, at least $l$ and at most $k$ processes must be in the CS at a time in the network.

Relativism in the Context of National Socialism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The aim of this chapter is to clarify the use and meaning of the concept of relativism in the context of National Socialism (NS). Section 1 examines the critical reproach that NS is a form of relativism.

The metabolic footprint of the airway bacterial community in cystic fibrosis

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2017
Background Progressive, chronic bacterial infection of the airways is a leading cause of death in cystic fibrosis (CF). Culture-independent methods based on sequencing of the bacterial 16S rRNA gene describe a distinct microbial community that decreases ...

Gut microbiota modulates bleomycin-induced acute lung injury response in mice

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2022
Background Airway instillation of bleomycin (BLM) in mice is a widely used, yet challenging, model for acute lung injury (ALI) with high variability in treatment scheme and animal outcomes among investigators. Whether the gut microbiota plays any role in

Levosimendan and Global Longitudinal Strain Assessment in Sepsis (GLASSES 1): a study protocol for an observational study

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2020
Introduction Cardiogenic shock is a condition of low cardiac output that represents the end stage of a progressive deterioration of cardiac function. The main cause is ischaemic heart disease, but there are several non-ischaemic causes, including sepsis.

Exercise Interventions in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults With Paediatric Bone Tumours—A Systematic Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bone tumours present significant challenges for affected patients, as multimodal therapy often leads to prolonged physical limitations. This is particularly critical during childhood and adolescence, as it can negatively impact physiological development and psychosocial resilience.

Irregular spiking of pyramidal neurons organizes as scale-invariant neuronal avalanches in the awake state

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Spontaneous fluctuations in neuronal activity emerge at many spatial and temporal scales in cortex. Population measures found these fluctuations to organize as scale-invariant neuronal avalanches, suggesting cortical dynamics to be critical.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Influence Of Current Leads On Critical Current For Spin Precession In Magnetic Multilayers

open access: yes, 2003
In magnetic multilayers, a dc current induces a spin precession above a certain critical current. Drive torques responsible for this can be calculated from the spin accumulation $\bar{\Delta\mu}$.
