Criticality in the infinite slab and cylinder with surface heat sources

Combustion and Flame, 1984
Abstract Localized surface heating of the infinite slab and infinite cylinder of exothermically reacting material is considered as a stability problem. In the cases of symmetrical heating the problem can be transformed to a form where already known analytical solutions for related classical problems can be utilized.

Criticality of neutron transport in a slab with finite reflectors

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1978
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the subcriticality and the supercriticality for the neutron transport in a slab which is surrounded by two finite reflectors. The mathematical problem is to determine when the coupled boundary-value problem has or has no positive solution.

Numerical calculation of critical points for a slab with partial insulation

Combustion and Flame, 1985
Abstract Numerical solutions of a nonlinear partial differential equation arising in thermal explosion theory are obtained for a finite rectangular strip domain with mixed boundary conditions. Critical points in the solution (marking loss of stability and loss of criticality) are computed directly for the case of a self-heating slab with its upper ...

Recent advances in the LTSNmethod for criticality calculations in slab geometry

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2004
Abstract The aim of this work is to present a new approach based upon the application of the LTSN method to solve the eigenvalue problem in a slab, namely the problem of criticality. The advances are based on a new iterative method for the solution of the system of equations for the boundary conditions and a new search methodology for the keff based ...

Some asymptotic slab criticality eigenvalue limits in a discrete angle model

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 1994
Abstract Explicit one-speed criticality criteria are obtained in a discrete angle transport model comprising two distinct sets of coupled forward-backward angles, ± μ 1 and ± μ 2 . In the limit of vanishing coupling between μ 1 and μ 2 the critical eigenvalue condition is shown to degenerate to that for the single forward-backward angle case

The reactive slab with partial insulation: A lower bound to criticality

ZAMP Zeitschrift fr angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 1984
The problem of determining critical conditions in a chemically reactive slab when the surface is partially insulated has been examined. A lower bound for the critical Frank-Kamenetskii parameter, which is a function of the insulation widthe and the activation energy parameterβ(β=R T 0/E), has been determined.

On the existence of a solution for a slab critical problem

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1980
Proves that a discrete solution exists for the critical inverse eigenvalue problem by direct application of Gohberg's theorem.
