The presence of the greater white-toothed shrew has been confirmed from two sites in the borough of Sunderland in North East England. These represent the first records of the species in Great Britain.

Scrub typhus is caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi (OT). In this study, the detection rates of OT in patients and small mammals were 28.13% (18/64) and 13.98% (13/93), respectively.
