Distribution of Borna Disease Virus Antigen and RNA in Tissues of Naturally Infected Bicolored White-Toothed Shrews, Crocidura leucodon , Supporting Their Role as Reservoir Host Species

Veterinary Pathology, 2010
Borna disease is a severe viral-induced disorder of the central nervous system of horses, sheep, and a few other animal species, occurring in certain areas of central Europe. Pathogenesis and epidemiology of natural Borna disease virus (BDV) infections are still not fully understood; several unique epidemiologic features, however, point toward the ...

2018
In this study, heterochromatindistribution in the chromosomes of five small mammals of three different species(Crocidura suaveolens, C. leucodon, Sorex raddei) from four different localities of Turkey were inestigated byusing standard karyotype and C-banding method.

The karyotype along with molecular data of the Iranian lineage of the bicolored shrew Crocidura leucodon (Hermann, 1780) provides evidence of the species level of C. persica Thomas, 1907

Mammalia
Abstract White-toothed shrews of the genus Crocidura represent the most speciose genus of mammals. Within this genus, Crocidura leucodon comprises four mitochondrial lineages, with the Iranian lineage being the most divergent.

Kraniometrická studie středoevropských populací bělozubek Crocidura suaveolens a C. leucodon (Mammalia: Soricomorpha)

2014
Interspecific and intraspecific size variability of the skull, mandibles and teeth of the lesser white- toothed shrew Crocidura suaveolens and the bicolored white-toothed shrew C. leucodon was studied on material of 350 skulls and 465 mandibles of white-toothed shrews obtained by analysis of the barn owl pellets originating from four regions in the ...

Borna disease virus antigen distribution in naturally infected bicolored white-toothed shrews, Crocidura leucodon, supporting its role as reservoir host species

2008
Borna Disease is a severe, immunopathological disorder of the central nervous system, caused by infection with Borna Disease Virus (BDV). The main known naturally affected animal species in endemic areas in central Europe are horses and sheep[24]. In this study we present evidence of shrew mice (Crocidura leucodon) as a vector of BDV.
