OSMOREGULATION IN CROCODILIANS

Biological Reviews, 1988
Summary1. The osmoregulatory strategies of crocodilians in both saline and fresh‐water environments are discussed and dissected into their separate components.2. Contrasts between members of the Alligatoridae and the Crocodylinae emerge repeatedly in aspects such as integumental permeabilities, functioning of the renal/cloacal system, and the presence ...

Flow dynamics of the crocodilian heart

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1989
We report for the first time the flow events corresponding to the pressure patterns in the left and right aorta (LAo and RAo) during the cardiac cycle in the caiman (Caiman crocodylus ssp). These experiments show a complex LAo flow pattern; an initial small anterograde flow in the early systole is reversed to a backflow at midsystole.

Crocodilians

2011
Crocodilians are a ubiquitous component of the vertebrate fauna of the Wealden Supergroup of southern England. In the past 160 years, 11 species belonging to as many as nine genera have been recognized. Many of these taxa are represented by well-preserved specimens, often comprising complete skulls and articulated or associated postcranial skeletons ...

Crocodilian Thermal Relations

2000
Sinusoidal daily and seasonal patterns of change in body temperature (Tb) measured at 15 degrees S latitude in 30-1,000 kg Crocodylus porosus are explicable by comparatively simple mathematical equations into which are fed only behaviour pattern, environmental data and body mass. This confirms that C.

Crocodilian Genome Advances

2020
Advancements in genomic techniques have greatly increased the scope of research into many aspects of crocodilian evolution and biology. As cold-blooded amniotes, crocodilians hold a unique evolutionary position for understanding all vertebrate lineages. Applying up-to-date genomic techniques to crocodilian genomes can have far-reaching implications for

A Formulary for Lizards, Snakes, and Crocodilians

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice, 2000
A formulary of drug dosages for use in lizards, snakes, and crocodilians based primarily on a survey of the existing literature is provided. The formulary is presented as a series of four tables: antimicrobial drugs; parasiticide drugs; anesthetic and analgesic drugs; and miscellaneous drugs. An extensive bibliography is included.
