Growth and yield performance of ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) under agroforestry

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2014
Investigations on effect of tree-crop combinations and nitrogen levels on growth, yield and withanolides content and yield of Withania somnifera L. Dunal were carried out during 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh (India).

THE ECONOMICS OF COCONUT REPLANTING AND ASSOCIATED CROPPING (IN FIJI)

open access: yesCORD, 1986
The importance of coconut stems primarily from its being an export crop. Coconut largely constitutes a crop of convenience in the basically agricultural, mainly subsistence, essentially rural-based economy of Fiji. It provides a basic dietary component and a source of cash income to meet social responsibilities, and employment opportunities in the ...

Crop‐based biofuels and associated environmental concerns [PDF]

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2012
AbstractCurrent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) models indicate that crop‐based biofuels generate greenhouse gas savings, compared with fossil fuels. We argue that they do so only because they ignore the emissions of CO2 from vehicles burning the biofuels without determining if the biomass is “additional,” and because they underestimate the ultimate ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Effects of fire and grazing on biogeochemical cycles in Brazilian pastures using LPJmL5-Pasture-Burning [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences
Farmers across the world frequently use fire during the winter or dry season, to remove accumulated dead pasture biomass. These fire-management practices have profound effects on vegetation, soil nutrients, and biogeochemical cycles, yet they are rarely ...
