Genetic Diversity and Structure of Lolium Species Surveyed on Nuclear Simple Sequence Repeat and Cytoplasmic Markers

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
To assess the genetic diversity and population structure of Lolium species, we used 32 nuclear simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and 7 cytoplasmic gene markers to analyze a total of 357 individuals from 162 accessions of 9 Lolium species.

Coordination of Cyanobacterial Nitrate Assimilation and Photosynthesis by a Novel PsbO‐Interacting Protein PirN

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PirN was identified as a previously uncharacterized PsbO‐interacting protein specifically induced in nitrate‐grown cyanobacteria. Loss of PirN leads to coordinated downregulation of PsbO and the nitrate reductase NarB, causing decreased PSII activity and impaired growth under nitrate conditions. Complementation with either PsbO or NarB largely restores

The Seed Yield of Soybean Cultivars and Their Quantity Depending on Sowing Term

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
The successful production of soybean seeds is dependent on the sowing date, because every sowing outside of the optimal time contributes to losses of yield.

A Functionally Conserved Enhancer is Critical for PGC1A Expression and Thermogenesis in Brown Fat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionarily conserved enhancer controls PGC1A expression and thermogenic activation in brown adipose tissue. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify two BAT‐specific enhancers, with PGC1A‐En1 functioning as the dominant regulatory element that maintains thermogenic capacity across species.

Transcriptome Analysis for Salt-Responsive Genes in Two Different Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) Cultivars and Functional Analysis of MsHPCA1

open access: yesPlants
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is an important forage legume and soil salinization seriously affects its growth and yield. In a previous study, we identified a salt-tolerant variety ‘Gongnong NO.1’ and a salt-sensitive variety ‘Sibeide’.

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Assessing nitrous oxide emissions and productivity of cropping systems for biogas production using digestate and mineral fertilisation in a coastal marsh site

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2023
Significant greenhouse gas emissions during substrate cultivation reduces the potential environmental benefits of biogas production. This study investigates the productivity of different cropping systems and their environmental impact in terms of nitrous

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Drought and Desertification in Iran

open access: yesHydrology, 2019
Iran has different climatic and geographical zones (mountainous and desert areas), mostly arid and semi-arid, which are suffering from land degradation. Desertification as a land degradation process in Iran is created by natural and anthropogenic driving

Maize Anther Development Involves Translated Open Reading Frames From 3′ Untranslated Regions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study examined the translation activity across ten stages of maize anther development, integrating transcriptome and small‐peptide data. It linked mutations in translated 3' ORFs to anther sterility, exemplified by Zm00001eb417050_3' ORF (known as APV1). In addition, the data indicated that maize anthers could assimilate CO2 through the stomata in
