A LIDAR-based crop height measurement system for Miscanthus giganteus
Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2012The objective of this research was to develop a stem height measurement system for Miscanthus giganteus (MxG), to be used as a component in a future Look Ahead Yield Monitor (LAYM). For this purpose, a SICK(R) LMS 291 LIght Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) unit was evaluated in static and dynamic mode.

Crop height monitoring with digital imagery from Unmanned Aerial System (UAS)
Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2017Abstract Crop height is a very important attribute to assess overall crop condition, irrigation, and estimation of terminal yield. In this study, a novel method to monitor crop height of Sorghum ( Sorghum bicolor ) using an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) is proposed. UAS data were acquired seven times over the growing season and each aerial acquisition

Journal of Vegetable Crop Production, 2000
ABSTRACT A field study was conducted to determine the optimum bed height for leafy greens crops grown on shaped beds. Bed heights of 5, 10, 15, and 20 cm (2, 4, 6, and 8 in) were evaluated with crops of mustard (Brassica juncea [L.] Czerniak.) and turnip (Brassica rapa L. Rapifera group) during three crop seasons.

INFLUENCE OF CROP HEIGHT ON HARVESTING LOSSES IN WINDROWED WHEAT
Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1989Harvesting losses in windrower/combine and direct combine harvesting systems were measured in four spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes during 5 yr. Two of the cultivars were of conventional height and two were semidwarfs. Crop height varied among years due to precipitation differences, and ranged from 49 to 90 cm in the conventional-height ...

Automatic measurement of crops canopy height based on monocular vision
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Computer vision technology has been increasingly used for automatically observing crop growth state, but as one of the key parameters in the field of agro-meteorological observation, crop canopy height is still measured manually in the actual observation process up to now. In order to automatically measure the height based on the forward-and-downward-

Rice Ratoon Response to Main Crop Harvest Cutting Height
Agronomy Journal, 1993AbstractAlthough main crop rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultural practices are known to influence the subsequent ratoon crop, little specific information is available on the effect of many main crop management practices on ratoon crop performance. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of main crop harvest cutting height on ratoon crop ...

Estimating wheat biomass by combining image clustering with crop height
Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2016Light scattering by ears, stems and twisted leaves obstructed NDVI segmentation.Partitioning clustering algorithms performed equally for biomass estimation.Wheat biomass estimation by image clustering was time- and location dependent.Calibration needs were prevented by combining image clustering with plant height. Site-specific management strategies in

GREENHOUSE TUNNEL VENTILATION DEPENDENCE ON TOMATO CROP HEIGHT AND LEAF AREA INDEX
Acta Horticulturae, 2008Greenhouse ventilation depends on a large number of parameters such as inside and outside climate and greenhouse and vents designs. They have been intensively studied and incorporated in various global ventilation models. However it depends also strongly on the crop occupying the greenhouse space, mostly for tall crops such as tomato crops.

Enhancing Crop Harvesting with Ultrasonic Stubble Height Sensing Technology
ARAI Journal of Mobility TechnologyCrop stubble refers to the residual plant material, primarily stems and leaves, that remains in the field after the harvest of the primary crop. In modern farming practices, considering the customer requirement, knowing the crop stubble height is a critical variable in agricultural management to plan for uniform crop cuts by adjusting the header’s ...

Transpiration efficiency in crops of semi-dwarf and standard-height sunflower
Irrigation Science, 1991This paper compares transpiration efficiency (TEc = shoot biomass corrected by seed oil-synthesis cost/ transpiration per unit vapour pressure deficit) of standard-height and semi-dwarf sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) crops. Three irrigation regimes that differed in timing and amount of irrigation were applied.
