Producing gas from crop residues

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1980
A pilot model downdraft gasifier demonstrated the feasibility of using crop and wood residues to produce low-Btu gas.

Crop Residue Management in India: Stubble Burning vs. Other Utilizations including Bioenergy

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
In recent studies, various reports reveal that stubble burning of crop residues in India generates nearly 150 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), more than 9 million tons of carbon monoxide (CO), a quarter-million tons of sulphur oxides (SOX), 1 ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The influence of field crop rotations on the accumulation of crop-root residues in the arable layer of sod-podzolic soil

open access: yesАграрная наука Евро-Северо-Востока, 2019
The aim of the research is to take a comparative assessment of the amount of plowed down plant residues in various field crop rotations in the conditions of the Republic of Mari El.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Population dynamics of Alternaria solani, Cercospora beticola, Ramularia beticola, and Stemphylium beticola in residues of host crops, non-host crops, and weeds in Dutch rotation systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Agronomy
Crop residues colonized saprophytically by necrotrophic plant pathogens are an important primary inoculum source for epidemics of foliar diseases. Residues of crops, weeds, and litter were systematically sampled in a complex crop rotation experiment ...

An assessment of crop residues as potential renewable energy source for cement industry in Malawi

open access: yesJournal of Energy in Southern Africa, 2017
Crop residues have been undervalued as a source of renewable energy to displace coal in the national energy mix for greenhouse emission reduction in Malawi.

Integrated systems improve the sustainability of soybean cultivation in the tropical region

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2023
Inter-cropping between annual crops with tropical forages through integration crop-livestock systems (ICL) is considered a sustainable option to increase crop diversity and soybean productivity.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
